BR Donk Report Thread

I am just curious about something.

Why even make a "Donk" deck? What exactly is the point of playing this sort of deck?

I know you want to win, but shouldn't the game be a bit more fun?

What is fun about sitting down, for a tournament where the rounds are at least 20 minutes, then less than 5 minutes later getting up and having to wait for the next round? I know there are other stuff to do, but what if you don't bring anything to do, what then?

I am thinking about quitting the league I go to, just cause it is not any fun anymore. I realize that I am an older player but I am always nice to the kids who play me (even give the new guys free cards). However it always seems like they are "avoiding" playing with me, I just sit there messing around with the decks or sometimes the DS.
Then when I do play, I get to play against somebody with a rather annoying "donk" deck, while I tend to run some fun "theme" decks (like a "Godzilla" deck based on Tyranitar/Ferralgatr).

I don't have a ton of $ to buy all the latest cards, so I can't really make a "good" deck (especially HG on)

For the second time in a row, no Sabledonk decks made top cut at the BR I attended (this time, I judged).

Of the seven games played total in top cut (five in T4, two in T2), one was decided via donk. This isn' too out of the ordinary.

All but one deck was using Sableye or Spiritomb.

Fond du Lac, WI BR Masters

Game 1: Donk opponent before opponent gets a turn. Start Sableye. Seeker a Squirtle off the bench and KO the active Floatzel GL.

Game 2: Donk opponent before opponent gets a turn. Start Sableye. KO the active Tepig.

Game 3: Donk opponent before opponent gets a turn. Do not start Sableye but win the flip. KO the active Unown Q.

Game 3: Donk opponent before opponent gets a turn. We both start Sableye but I win the flip. KO the benched Gastly and KO the active Sableye.

Top 2 G1: Scoop. Do not start Sableye and lose coin flip. Opponent uses Collector and 2 SP Radar.

Top 2 G2: Scoop. Start Sableye. Hit 9 tails in a row to miss the donk (any heads would have given me the game).

Take 2nd place. Of the 3 hour tournament, I play approximately 10 minutes. Lots of standing around and super boring. Point proven.

I actually built anti Sabledonk but going with straight Arceus. 20 Arceus in the deck all 70-90 HP Basics. I beat all the Sabledonk decks. I play 4 Call energy and 4 Pokemon Collector. There is no way I lose to Sabledonk. Zekromdonk is a way different story. You see Sabledonk hardly touches my Arceus X but Zekrom ohkos them. So its really Zekrom donk that is the problem. That and of course Machamp Takeout were my only donk losses during 2 BR this weekend. I went 8-3 with Arceus. 2 of the losses to Zekrom, swiss and Top cut and the other to Takeout Machamp (auto loss) but every deck has an auto loss.

BR Treviso.
I'm playing SableDonk

1st game:
My opponent starts with Spiritomb and Poltergeist me T2 for the win.
0-1

2nd game: i donked T1 a Junior
1-1

3rd game: i was donked T1
1-2

Just three turns of playing and -10 rating points lost.
Not that good.

I got donked once vs Sableye in the final round. I was playing Steelix and had a lone Onix start.
I also donked someone myself, but it was a lone Magikarp start, so the only thing out of the ordinary was that I managed the donk before he got a turn.

I played Civilization The Board Game on Saturday to avoid the donkness at BR. It's nice to know there are decent games out there where the win condition takes strategy AND time/turns to achieve.

At least there's one good thing about donks. You can earn all your league promos and badges in one session.

If only we all had 12 hours

The rest of us are stuck with Settlers of Catan or Dominion :thumb:

I played at one Battleroads that was 3 rounds. I was playing straight donphan (quite fast but lots of later game techs like Regirock, Lucians, 3 Switch, 3 Seeker etc so not a donk deck, though a deck capable of donking). Due to the BW rules i put 4 Sableye in.

Round 1: Won the flip, won on T1 without opponent drawing a card
Round 2: Won the flip, won on T1 without opponent drawing a card
Round 3: Beat a senior as i was the only 2-0 Master

By far the most boring tournament i've been to! (though i did get a victory medal)

Wow, is the format right now that bad? I've been looking to return to Pokemon TCG at some point, but this is really disappointing to hear.

During battle roads on Sunday, I donked and got donked. In round 1, I started with a Sableye versus the opponent's Tepig. I used collector to get Ambipomb, crobat, and Unown Q, played down the Ambipom and attached a DCE to it, played down the Crobat and flash bit the Tepig, attached the Unown q to the Sableye and retreated the for the Ambipom, and did 60 for the game. In round 3, I battled a Sabledonk and we both started with Sableye. The coin flip made him go first, so I lost. I came in third with a 3-1 record.

There were a lot of donks at the tourneys went to, BUT there were only 3 total sabledonk decks at the 2 tourneys I went to (All 3 combined for a 9-8 record) and everyone seemed to have a good time. The format is a problem, but all of you sabledonk players are only making this worst. I hope that the next BR I go to is as fun as my last 2 where both tournys had different and creative decks ended making top cut. All I'm saying is that...you Sabledonk players are hurting this game, you have no right to complain :v

There are a couple of older cards that aren't really compatible with the newest rulebook, and it kind of ruins the game. Just wait until July 1st... the game will be a lot more balanced once they rotate the whole shebang.

Actually, quite the opposite.

All us Sabledonk players are playing it in hope of showing P!P that this format is terrible and stale.

Your argument is flawed :p

yes Battle Roads are ruined, but Nats and worlds will not.

Sabledonk players are helping us prove the point that the format sucks and we need an early rotation so that Worlds is actually a valid tournament. Props to everyone using SableDonk and exploiting the holes in the rules to make the game a better one come July 1st!

Yes, because regular donks don't show that?

Stop justifying running a deck that doesn't require skill. We copied Japan's rules, we'll copy the rotation. The online game only has HGSS-on packs. The newer card blisters and such have none of the older stuff. Rotation IS happening.

You're just adding to the problem. Like another poster said in another thread. Something along the lines of "Running Sabledonk to show donks are bad? How about starting a bunch of house fires to show that your local fire department needs more funding?"

You want cheap wins, just admit it :v

I played healix on Saturday. I went 4-1, only losing to a sabledonk. I lost to the same sabledonk in top cut, 2 games to 1. It was very frustrating because the deck was nearly impossible to stop. The once it did lose was because of a bad start.conclusion- I hate sabledonk.

LOLUMADBRO

No, you have it alll wrong. Not just donks, just how ridiculously stupid and fast every game is. Ever seen the what won thread.

And, to add onto that, it shows just how broken sabledonk is, and hoiw it must be rotated out for a healthy format.

And in response to your last point, uhh its BR's, and a win is approximately .74 points for me. :p.

Yea? I realize the format is a problem. What does that even have to do with anything? I AGREED

Ok, again, I agreed that it needs to be rotated out. I said that it would be rotated out REGARDLESS of BRs, why don't you actually respond to each of my individually points instead of going OMGUSODUMB:> on me?

Ok, so donking isn't fun. You're not getting anything for winning. The rotation is happening regardless of you running Sabledonk. Glad you dedicated an entire day towards absolutely nothing. AWESOMEFUNFUFILLINGLIFEUGOTGOINGTHEREBRO
