I never got too into breeding, so I know very little. When I actually tried to do it in Ruby, my game was stolen =/. So, where is a good place to learn about breeding and it's benefits? I want to train old-school, but I don't want to waste my time doing that if the Pokemon I use won't even be competitive. Oh yeah, and EV confuse the crap out of me... ugh...

That's a great place to look, that's where I got most of my info from when I started breeding on my Emerald game. I am now transferring all of my Breeding Pokemon over to Pearl and mixing in the D/P Pokemon in order to cover just about everything that could possibly need to be hatched for any trainer out there.
