At least we FINNALY have offical work on why top cuts have been removed form battle roads. They felt thatBattle Roads were taking up too much time and they wanted them to get over faster.

I still wish we had Top cuts at Battle Roads but at least we finnaly have a reason why they were removed.

Why were Battle Roads taking too much time? Isn't that the point or did they remove Top Cut simply because they don't want people to play Pokemon TCG and enjoy themselves? To rush the whole Tournament is basically TPCi/P!P saying that they don't care about running and hosting the events taking place and is a real spit in the face to us players who enjoy this TCG.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.

TPCI is run by people who secretly hate all Pokemon players. It burns them up inside when they see them having fun and enjoying the game, so they do everything in their power to suck all the enjoyment out of the experience. Eventually, their aim is to destroy the game we love from within, and they are completely prepared to sacrifice their own jobs in the end to do it.

So, yes, the only reason why they took away the top cuts was to spit in the face of the players. They would probably like to do that literally too, but can't because of legal issues.*

*Seeing as this is the internet, I better point out that I was being sarcastic and I do not believe that anyone employed by TPCI wants to spit at players.

Well, we still have top cuts in Germany.

However, no top cut is better than a top cut that's too small. At my first Battle Road this season I've finished once again 5th, while only losing the 4th round against the tournament winner. Not because I played weak opponents, but because we were 29 masters and only cutted to top 4 which is just too low when there are 6 or 7 players with 4-1 or better.

Same applies to 15 players in one age group, which usually results to one 4-0 and 4 3-1 players, from which only one gets to play top 2. In such a case, it's really better to not play tops at all.

To me, Garchomp is a breath of fresh air after the Basic insanity of the last two formats.

It was pretty popular in the Battle Roads I attended, but I just think its too vulnerable to failure. I just don't like it as much as other decks in the format.

Garchomp was played by most of the people at my Battle Road, but not everyone in the Top 4 played it. It's a good deck, but not dominating or even BDIF.

Re Matt/Apollo: As a competitive player, I feel for you, and agree completely. But if I were looking at it from the perspective of OP, variance at what's supposed to be an "entry-level" tournament is a very good thing. By making it harder for the top players to win an event, you effectively fulfill the purpose of giving newer/less skilled or established players an easier chance to win, boosting both their confidence levels and their desire to keep participating.

So long as everybody's play is legit, OP doesn't care who wins or loses its tournaments - they just want us to keep playing and keep spending money on product. New winners = more chances to create loyal, lifelong customers, so I"m convinced that this will remain in effect for good.

I completely agree with this, and think this is how it should be. But when they gave CP to the events, they made these into serious tournaments. What you posted really shouldn't be the mentality for an event that can make or break a worlds invite.

Top cut for tournaments with 29 people is usually 4. This is nothing new.
T8 at 32 T16 at 64 T32 at 128 etc.

Dang, 90+ in Tomball, Texas which is the largest attendance ever for Tomball. Honestly, I don't think the CP had anything to do with this. I'd say 80% of the players had no idea how the point system worked. They were there for fun. Thank god we didn't have top cut.

So with the tourneys getting so big now do you think Cities will also have the winner determined by swiss play?

The point break dOwn in fine, and the kicker is a great addition. But having no top cut is horrible. I couldn't care less about going home earlier. It's a given that at one point you will get unlucky and lose a game, especially with the current supporters. But the one person who isn't unlucky will get the win. This seems much worse to me, but With top cut, you get best two out of three to give yourself a chance. If we played b2o3 Swiss, this system would be fine. But we don't in America.

No.

One more thing, regarding the players will drop like crazy after realizing they can't make first place. 90+ players and no players dropping because they couldn't make first place.

I think several factors are driving the high attendances we have seen so far:

1. Aside from those that went to Worlds, everyone else has been itching for a competitive tourney, basically for two months.

2. With the new set and more importantly, the rotation, everyone is anxious to try out the cards and format.

3. It is a long holiday weekend, with more opportunity to travel a little further for a chance to play. All the college kids don't have to study yet...

Having top cut is always good, I think we can all agree with that. I'm a little disappointed how much an opponent dropping can affect you now.

That's almost completely a myth. You are better off if an opponent drops than if they keep playing and losing. I think sometimes people use it as an excuse - most often their resistance is bad because they lost an early game and were playing people with negative or even records for a couple of rounds after that.

The bad thing about dropping now would be if it affected numbers for the kicker.
