Burn Booster question

[Hoyas]

Flareon (Skyridge H7)'s Burn Booster says:

"Discard an Energy card attached to Flareon in order to use this attack. If the discarded card is a Energy card, this attack does 40 damage plus 10 more damage."

If Flareon has a Metal Energy (Neo Genesis 19) attached and I discard it when I attack does Metal energy's -10 damage reduction still apply to Flareon's attack?

If you're playing under the rules when NEO Genesis first came out, yes the damage reduction occurs.

If playing by today's rules.....

Today's rules are the same. You choose the card to be discarded, do damage, and then do the discard.
