Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Can Gengar be stopped?

a good player can beat a good player and a bad player can beat a good player it all depends on how lucky they get and what they do with there cards they receive, but yea a ganger deck can be beaten it is all the time just because its making top cut a lot doesn’t mean anything a lot of decks are making top cut.

I'm sorry but i can tell by this post that you are not an experienced Gengar player. If you play Gengar just because of the flip, then you DO NOT play Gengar for the right reason. "Fainting Spell" is just an added bonus. If you get 1 or 2 prizes, then you are lucky.

However you are right that fainting spell has been winning Gengar players their games.

I don't play Gengar at all, but I have played against two of the best Ggar players around, and I'm confident that without fainting spell it can be beat without any trouble at all. I feel that many players try to find a way around Fainting Spell, and that is what changes the game play against a Ggar, because if the players do attack with full force as normal, then the opponent just flips a quick heads anyway. I would never be satisfied knowing I won because of a coin flip, or in Gengar's case, multiple flips.

I am a Gengar player and i could careless if my opponent "gets around" Fainting Spell. As long as I am able to take the first prize, I am usually able to win with or without the use of Fainting Spell. Also, my opponent can have everything on their side with an Unown G attached to it. Nidoqueen will have so much fun Mega Punching and Ruthless Tailing for the win.

Tyranitar can stop Gengar. Although Machamp is taken into consideration. but yeah most likely Dialga can easily stop Gengar. Any consideration to using life orbs so that way, you can remove those damage counters and prevent Gengar from dealing so much damage to your pokemon from using Poltergeist.

Konopacz - Skuntank G and Crobat are the play in Kingdra. Skuntank G helps 2HKO any Gengar and avoid Fainting Spell, and a searchable Plus Power is really useful. The 3 Kingdra decks that Top 8'd our Nats, all played G techs.

The most popular deck, the won that has had the most success in international nats is NOT the deck to beat?

Gengar is a huge threat. If you are underestimating it, then you are either running 2-3 Unown G and other counters to it, or you are being arrogant and naive.

A bit late but...

Flygon would like a word with you about that bolded statement.

Ya thats sounds like a much more reasonable idea. I would play that deck with like 2 uxie. Dark Plox axtually sounds ok.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

wait... y would it be good against Dialga?

Because you dark engage and then flip over your prizes for massive damage.
~_~;

Gengar wins a lot with speed, but if it lacks taking fast prizes, it's going to have a hard time later in the game. Everybody is tripped about Fainting Spell, nobody can always depend on that.

Happened to me in the finals of BR's, I could have won if I would have gotten 1 HEADS out of 3 Coin Flips. That's when people learn their lesson.

Amphy tech FTW?

I think everyone should look at the top 16 in Canadian Nationals (No gengar what so ever) hmmmm thats strange.....

Wow am i the only AMERICAN here???? Dark Tozicroak and Scipio, please don't lie. You KNOW that there has been no deck as sucsessfull as Gengar this season.

Nah, they're not lying. Go check the reports (the Canadian one is sorted out now, and there were no Gengars in T16).

The only deck that has won all season is Kingdra. No-one even played Gengar much until US Regionals. It's been very successful since then, but it won't be the best deck for ever (sorry).

At the recent BR's, maybe. But at international Nats, it has just been one of the pack. How hard is that to grasp?
Gengar isn't good, its a card reliant on Fainting Spell to beat certain decks (It will lose 100% to any good Beedrill without Fainting Spell, just to name a quick example), donking Unown G's and Uxies and cheap prizes. I'll get flamed for this but eh, it's my OPINION, and we're allowed to have those.
See here's the thing konopacz - In American BATTLE ROADS, Gengar might've been quite the force. But at International NATIONALS, it wasn't nearly as good. Tell me what's higher valued, NATIONALS or BATTLE ROADS, then come back.
Ofcourse, we'll see what happens at US Nationals, but if everything pans out like I would expect it, either Flygon, Beedrill or a random rogue nobody considered will take it. And not Mismagius-Bibarel.
