List of Defending Champions
Masters: Andrew Vincze
Seniors: Alaric M-B

Hopefully all of last years winners will make it back to Toronto to defend their title as well!

RED = No longer valid byes as they have won 2 byes from regionals and they don't stack

This is the updated list and 100% accurate I believe if anything is wrong lmk.

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ON THIS LIST. These byes are going to be super helpful and are well deserved hopefully you will all make it to nationals and good luck to you during the event.

Yes I am aware. We have two people defending in masters I guess. It would be pretty sick if either of them won.

Well he did himself a favor by getting T2. I still fully expect him to play Nats (he said he wasn't going to play Regionals). There's more reason now to sit out; however, I'm still a skeptic about Zach not playing...

Actually there's less reasons now, given where his ranking was and his record yesterday 9-2, he'll have at least a 32 point buffer -- no reason not to play at least until his first loss. Pehaps we need a new thread for this topic -- Will Zach play Nats, How many rounds! Props to him -- his run is that impressive, and any year we put Canadians into Worlds on points is something we should all be excited for. We are on track to put at least 1 (and potentially multiple), players in each age group into Invite Range and, at least here in the East, we owe a lot to the PTOs Marvin and Garret who have given us a great number of events this year which makes this possible.

Actually, I think it would be much better to stay the night after (Saturday).

You live close enough to Toronto (the center of the universe:biggrin:) so that you can drive in early on Saturday morning and then the Nationals will last to midnight and beyond, go back to your room for a couple of hours sleep and then rock the Ugly Cup on Sunday!:thumb:

Absolutely correct (except the centre of the universe is Eternia where He-man is from), play, party, crash for an hour or 2 and ROCK the Ugly Cup.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Or the match-up, the prodigy vs. the gansta...

Feature Match material for sure.

I was thinking more and more about myself playing nats vs not playing nats which led me to many different outcomes (well, 2-4 lol)

1st 100% outcome, I am skipping BRs and hopefully judging them. BRs are just not worth it for almost anyone especially me considering my rating should be in the 1900's.

Possible outcomes:

- I am around 1920, I can take up to 2 losses at Nats. I may like the new set which could allow me to play at nats (if I think I can legitimately win, I will play).

- I hate the new set, I sit out.

- I say screw my possible invite and play nats out all of the way (not happening lol)

- I win the Ugly Cup which would help me get to Worlds like crazy (idk how far 1500$ will get me lol).

I will make an educated decision about nats around the time of nats. This decision will be even easier because Jacob won a hotel stay from Regionals so even if I don't play, I will be up for testing Friday night (this is soooooooooooo fun :p). So ya, that pretty much covers it:)

just play it out, your not gonna lose the rating invite unless you completly bomb nats

I also don't want to 0-1 drop if I play. I have to see my rating first before I begin to make decisions. If I am ahead of Kant Shen (1900 something AKA the highest Canadian rating ever), I will be done for the year.

Zach, you have no reason to sit out nats for some of these reasons...
- No matter what you rating is, you'll have more than enough space to lose a match w/o sacrificing your worlds invite
- With first 2 round byes you have an even better chance at top cut and therefore a better chance @ another scholarship + free trip to worlds
- No matter what you ranking is, you cannot consider yourself the best player in canada w/o even participating in the biggest event of the year
- By sitting out, it seems like you're not confident in playing against the players from the west who will all come out playing solid decks (unlike the east where the metagame tends to be somewhat random, and less top archetypes seem to be played)

The only reason not to play nats is because you're scared. If you're a solid player, no matter what the new sets bring, and what your ranking is, you should be able to successfully play nats.

Sean, all of these "play out nats" responses are easy for someone NOT within my rating proximity to say. I am not saying I am scared, incapable, or not(well not anymore that is...I lied again Mr. Koo:lol:) playing nats. If I play at nats it is because I thought it out and have come to an understanding that I am in a position to take nats. Until my rating goes up, there isn't even a point of thinking about it. For now, I am in a fantastic spot and am one of the very few people who could even think about skipping nats, that is all in which my fantastic spot enables me to do.

Well, I don't think I am playing in Nats even more considering I broke the 1900's and I should have enough to go.

New subject:

Who wants to chill the day before Nats (Friday Night)???

I will be at Nats (the hotel) because Jacob (my brother) won a trip to nats and I want to still practice with some people. So if anyonoe is up for this LMK.

All of Canada is happy you decided you are amazing enough to skip nationals . However why would anyone want to practice with someone who has no intention of playing. If you want to practice for worlds after nationals LMK though.

I never stated that I was "amazing" but, some people were wondering and my current thoughts are to skip nats.

Why wouldn't people want to practice with me? I would assume that I could help some people and I still want to have fun. So my offer still stands, I'm up for having pokemon battles before nats.

I didn't see anyone wondering really... except yourself. Everyone else just seemed to be saying you should play from what I saw lol.

Anyways it makes more sense to play someone else participating in nationals imo because you are both benefiting from it. Kill two birds with one stone in a sense. If you wanted to do some ugly cup testing I would probably be down though. At least Saturday for sure maybe not Friday.

Yeah, exactly. I wasn't wondering about Zach not playing - I still have a running theory that he will pick up his cards on the Saturday and play :D

Whatever he decides to do is cool.

He has at least one match loss of grace imo lol... if he manages to hit a high ranked player he could take some more rating and have even a higher rating then drop. Or he could lose drop and still be fine.. IDK

Perhaps we need a new thread for this topic -- Will Zach play Nats, How many rounds!

That is what I was referring to as I thought it was the new topic =/

IDK why it matters if I am not gaining any benefit from it but, whatevs. My offer still stands though because I found it to be quite fun. If it changes anyones mind, my brother and dad will both be up for testing too (which they are both playing nationals). I will also have cards to trade my DS, etc. basically I am saying lets make nats fun (even if I am not playing).

I would be down for some DS / Board gaming depending on when I get in and whether or not I feel I need to be testing . Definitely would be down for something at some point though. I hate flying out somewhere and just playing the TCG and not actually doing anything it suxors
