Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Carrington388's CaC Contest--"The Apprentice" Style

OK, here are each team's average scores for this round:

Team Torchic: 69 Points (Lowest Card Score 60, Highest Card Score 75)
Team Techno Fluff: 74* Points (Lowest Card Score 74*, Highest Card Score 74)
*--A score of 0 was not counted in the team average due to circumstances beyond a participant's control.

That means Team Techno Fluff wins yet again! Seriously, Team Techno Fluff can do no wrong! Team Techno Fluff has moved to 11-2 overall!

However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm going to have to cancel the boardroom session. Team Torchic, you're extremely lucky, since you would have had to eliminate someone from the contest. However, lunatone_solrock has had persistent computer problems that caused him to be incapable of continued participation in this contest. With that, lunatone_solrock has been allowed to leave the contest to attend to his own affairs. We wish you luck on your future endeavors, lunatone_solrock.

That means that, with lunatone_solrock's departure, Team Torchic has the numbers advantage for the first time since round two. Team Torchic has three participants to Team Techno Fluff's two. The next round, round 14, is the last traditional cardmaking round in this contest, and it's that round that will determine our final four. The round 14 assignment will be up shortly.

First, here's the round 13 links for all to see:

Team Torchic's High-Damage Non-Broken Attacks
Team Torchic's High-Damage Non-Broken Attacks

And here's how the teams stand after round 13:

Team Torchic:
Captain: dragonspy900
2. LorakLucam
3. DragonSol

Team Techno Fluff:
Captain: Sunflorazumarill
2. Scribble

Anyway, here is the round 14 assignment:

No, Marketing still hasn't decided whether or not EX: Expanded will come with 3-D glasses. However, in addition to the five high-damage cards, "the man" also wants five cards that can utilize "anything but the kitchen sink".

Yep, in this round, EVERY specification will read "permitted", and only two of them will have restrictions. You've noticed so far that every round has had "No" next to "Ultima Types", as has "Fourth Generation" since that specification was added. Well, not in this round! The only reason I had the "Ultima Types" specification in the first place was because I did plan to have one round where they were permissible! You are NOT required to use them, but you are NOT forbidden from using them.

Pokémon-XA, Pokémon-XD, Imakuni? cards, and fourth-generation Pokémon that does not have an English name as officially announced by Nintendo are considered "the kitchen sink" in this round. This round's theme is "anything but the kitchen sink".

Simply put, almost anything goes.

Here's the round 14 specifications and rubric:

Descriptors: Permitted
Owners: Permitted, Must Come Before Descriptor
Dual-Types: Permitted
Ultima Types: Permitted, Cannot Dual-Type W/Ultima
Multi-Prize Mechanics: Permitted, Anything Except Pokémon-XA and Pokémon-DS
Chaos Emerald Mechanics: Permitted
Legal Stages: Baby, Basic, Stage 1 and Stage 2
Fourth Generation: Permitted; Munchlax and Bonsly Only

Name--3 points. Make sure everything's spelled right, including the owner and/or multi-Prize mechanic if used.
Picture--3 points. Try to make it descriptive.
Type(s)--5 points. Single-types and dual-types are acceptable. Make sure they fit.
HP--5 points. Make sure it fits the card well. Too much or too little and I dock you.
Weakness/Resistance--5 points. Make sure all Weakness and Resistances the mechanic allows fit. The more allowable, the more lenient I'll be on nonsensical ones.
Retreat Cost--5 points. Again, make it fit the card.
Pokemon Power/Attacks--30 points. No more than three total per card, and the card must have at least 1 attack. You can have 1 attack only, 2 attacks only, 1 attack and 1 power, 2 attacks and 1 power, etc. on your card. If you do 1, it's worth 30; if you do 2, they're worth 15 each; and if you do 3, they're worth 10 each.
Rarity--3 points. Not much choice here, but make sure you choose it right.
Explanations--8 points. May sound harsh, but it helps to explain not only why your high-damage attack shouldn't be considered broken but also how the card works and why mechanics are what they are.
Strategy--8 points. How can you combine your card with other cards effectively?
Bonuses & Penalties--There is one bonus category worth five bonus points. There are still a few penalty categories out there, so be wary!
Round 3 Possible Total--75 points.
If both teams have average scores of 45 points or lower, both teams go to the boardroom.

Anyway, it's time to make some cards. Team Techno Fluff is trying to win without lunatone_solrock. Can they prove that lunatone_solrock was just one part of their success? Team Torchic is trying to take all three of their members to the final four. Can they do it? May the best team win.

I don't get it, do we make cards that are "kitchen sink" or not plus my my XXX pokemon allowed? Plus by "kitchen sink" what do you mean, i got an idea of it. Not acpetable right? l

If a mechanic is not considered to be part of "the kitchen sink", it's perfectly acceptable for this round. Pokémon-XXX are not in "the kitchen sink" and are thus acceptable.

Yet about 6 scores of 0 were counted in the theam average due to the laziness of some of the team members the round I was eliminated...hmm...

Yeah, Carrington, if someone can't make a card for the round, even under extreme circumstances (which is what I presumed was what happened with LunaSol), teh score should be counted into the average. Your decision here is HIGHLY preferencial and leans toward Team Techno-Fluff in a new and disturbing way that I'm suprised Team Torchic hasn't objected to.

But, hey, the contest is about over. And we won't have to worry about all the preferencial judgements that have gone on in here so far. I think we're all about ready to have this over and out of our lives.

Cardz Out.

I didn't object because he "fired" (just didn't use the word fired) Luna_Sol, said Luna had to leave the competition. So even if the card would have been counted in the average, Luna would have been fired anyway. He was being nice about it.

OK, here are each team's average scores for this round:

Team Torchic: 71 Points (Lowest Card Score 66, Highest Card Score 77, 2 Bonuses)
Team Techno Fluff: 80 Points (Lowest Card Score 80, Highest Card Score 80, 2 Bonuses)

I guess no one person is the key to Team Techno Fluff's success. It's teamwork, and Team Techno Fluff ends the main cardmaking rounds with a record of 12-2 (or 11-3 if Team Torchic wants to intervene) with this win! That means Team Techno Fluff is safe from the second-to-last boardroom session! (The last boardroom session will occur after the 17th and final round, that's where the final round's scores will be revealed and a winner decided.)

Team Torchic, what can I say? Team Techno Fluff just worked better as a team than you did, even when you were in that slump. I'm sorry to say that you have one last date with the boardroom before a winner is decided three rounds from now. That date with the boardroom will be around 9:00 PM Central time. One player will be eliminated from this contest. This decision will be just as hard on me as it is on you, so don't be surprised if you're the one being cut loose. You have until around 9:00 PM tonight to think about it. I'll see you there.

OK, Team Torchic, it's time to head into the boardroom.

[dragonspy900, LorakLucan, and DragonSol file into boardroom]

Team Techno Fluff, please do not look in the boardroom. If you do, one of you could end up fired whenever you go the boardroom.

*Yawn*

>_>

Hunh? This isn't over yet? Wow. It seems like I left 3 months ago, and we're just now eliminating someone else. I'm bored with this, but until it ends, BT won't start this contest.

Well, unfortunately, we don't have the round 15 assignment yet, or even anything about the round 15 assignment. R&D has mentioned that the source materials for the assignment are delayed and won't be available unil the first Monday after Thanksgiving. (Obviously, the American Thanksgiving.)

Anyway, we just got word from Marketing about the 3D glasses for EX: Expanded, and they are a go. For EX: Expanded, there will be three styles. One will be in a platnium color and have an imprint of a Game Boy Advance SP on it, to be available in a multi-Prize theme deck. The second will be in a light blue and have the type symbol of the {I} Ultima type imprinted on it, to be available in an Ultima theme deck. The last style is a two-tone style, yellow on one side, green on the other, symbolizing the colors of the alternate-color forms of Latios and Latias, these will be distributed in the booster boxes. All Pokémon-* and certain other cards in the set will have special layers on their pictures so that you can view a 3D image of the flat drawing on the card.

Speaking of Pokémon-*, they will be the main focus on an exhibition round that will lead up to Thanksgiving. Simply put, in this exhibition round, you, the final four, will make several Pokémon-* for EX: Expanded. Since this is EX: Expanded, there are quite a few permissible mechanics. Here are the specifications for this exhibition round (there is no rubric for an exhibition round):

Descriptors: Required; Pokémon-* Required, Others Permitted
Owners: Permitted, Must Come Before Descriptor
Dual-Types: Permitted
Ultima Types: Permitted, Cannot Dual-Type W/Ultima
Multi-Prize Mechanics: Permitted, Anything Except Pokémon-XA and Pokémon-XD
Chaos Emerald Mechanics: No
Legal Stages: Basic Only
Fourth Generation: No

There will be only one thread for this exhibiton round. The exhibition round will end on Thanksgiving Day in America, November 24.

Oh Carrington388, the next two weeks are solid test weeks for me. Could you perhaps consider extending the exhibition round, or make a longer deadline when the round finally starts?

Also, you never told us what the bonus category in the last round was.

or throw in a temporary replacement, say...me? ;x

No, I'm neither extending the exhibiton round nor hiring a replacement. I'll instead extend the deadline for the end of round 15.

Yes. He had to wait a long time to exploit a failure of mine(since theyre obviously so rare ;x), he's not going to throw me back in(if only temporarily) after all that work he did to get me out. =P

We finally have the round 15 assignment.

Being a member of the CaC community isn't just about making cards. It's also about knowing the mechanics that are used on many a card. It's also about knowing just what someone else's card is supposed to do.

Anyway, upon return from the holiday break, the board announced a 120-question aptitude test for the company. The person in the company that scores the highest will be promoted to a higher position, and the person in the company that scores the lowest will be fired.

The Final Four participants in this contest will also take this aptitude test, although each of you will have 10 questions trimmed off of your test so you only have 110 questions. The 10 trimmed questions are not the same for each person. You are not allowed to ask each other for help on your test, nor are you allowed to ask me for help on your test. If a question focuses on another CaCer, you are also not allowed to ask that CaCer for help (i.e. if the question is about Burninating_Torchic, you can't ask Burninating_Torchic for advice, and so on and so forth). Aside from those restrictions, you are allowed to ask other CaCers for help on questions, but you are not permitted to ask the same CaCer for help on more than 9 questions altogether.

I will send you the materials for this test via PM. You will recieve multiple PMs with test questions and one more PM with an answer sheet. Using the reply function in the PM, use the reply on the quote sheet and type your answers to each question next to the corresponding number with a well-sharpened number 2 keyboard and number 2 mouse. Then PM me your answer sheet with your answers on it. Do NOT post your answers in this thread!

Your score for this round will depend on the number of questions you answer correctly at one point per question. That means there's 110 points possible in this round.

You have until December 12 at 11:59 PM Central to PM me your answers on your answer sheet.
