It has been confirmed from my sources that the age groups will remain the same during the 2006-2007 cycle. No changes to the age groups will be made anytime now or in the near future. This is because POP doesn't think that such a change will work out, especially for the 10- kids (one primary reason)...
"Your sources"?

Who might THEY be?

and then you'd win with honor, right? because less people means you will have worked harder.
ladies and gentlemen, i present to you...our world champion.
=/

Ummm, I think you need to take a look at the TCG you play. With so many great players in the U.S. alone sometimes the difference is LUCK, not hard work. (I'm sure they all worked hard just to get that good)
I think it's a smart player that recognises that there's a lot of really good competition out there, and if the age structure changes to improve my odds then that's great for me. I don't see the work effort being greatly reduced, World's, the U.S National's, and most other premier tournaments are still going to have a lot of great players making it a challenge to win the event even if there is an age change that may reduce the players in my age category and increase my odds of winning.

I think our World champion did a great job a World's !! But I also think he had some luck, and I'm sure he realizes that too !!

I have a couple of questions:
How many times has a World champion successfully defended his title ??
Why do you suppose that is ??

so...none of you guys ever heard of sarcasm?

Im in agreement with tha Change, if it happens.

Mainly because it would align the world in terms of age play. IE: Im sure it could have been a shock or maybe even made it easier for some of the Japan players to play at Worlds and be in a different age range or more difficult. All depends on how old they were/are. Say they were 14, well then they wouldnt have to worry about any player 15-17 at Worlds because the age divisions would be different therefor eliminating competition or lack thereof.

I would 3> this cause it would mean less ppl in my age group so more chance to win.

I remember someone saying that this was going to happen in the future, but now, I don't think it will. Nothing has really been said about it at all in the longest time, so this happening next year would be kind of a sudden surprise. Who knows, though.

What about the sudden ruilings during Wolrd's '04? Id call that a surprise LOL, but that was due to translation error.

For the past couple of years I think it is funny that is topic keeps coming up. They haven't changed the age groups in the past, so it would lead me to believe that they would not change it in the future.

Were you not here during WOTC? Because I have played in the 15+ for the longest of times and the 15+ hasnt been able to play for anything until they instated the 15+ into the mix. So I would call that changing it, right?

Now in the sense you are talking about. Changing the range. Then no it hasnt happened.

EDIT: The reason this is being discussed is because of the way the setup is in Japan. Those age ranges are about in line with the age ranges in Japan. Correct ?

I dunno. The change in age groups was supposed to happen last year according to like a million rumors. Any possibility of it happening this year? 12-, 13-17, 18+

It would make a lot of sense IMO.

A. How would this make "sense"
B. How was this "supposed" to happen? Stop making up false information

If they are going to change the age divisoins, I'm sure they'll let us know

Just about everybody thought it was gonna happen before the start of this season until liesek said that there wouldnt be a change this season and some people heard some things at nats last year.

Makes sense because:
11-14 is pretty much a dead age group with like 5 people playing in it every tournament and also it would seem to allow POP to devote more money to scholarships because they wouldnt have to pay for the guardian of the 18+ trip winner.

"supposed" probably wasnt the right word though

There are no plans at this time to change age groups for the 06-07 season.
