Combos for EX Emerald

Okay, a lot of people are complaining this set isn't up to snuff. Now, looking at it, I agree, it isn't chock full of obvious combos along the lines of say, Ruby/Sapphire or Team Rocket Returns, but the more I look at it, the more combos start cropping up... kinda like Team Rocket Returns on first impression for many player's I talked too.

I honestly think we have some intentional misleading from some of the better players; they've seen some combos they like, but because they are saving them for big tournaments, they bad mouth the set, hoping people won't look to closely.

Well, I've been looking at the cards, and some combos are finally popping into my head. I wonder if there are more. So I figured why not start a thread and ask people to submit combinations involving the EX Emerald cards?

What do I mean?

Here's an example.

The new Swampert ex. AT first glance, it's power seems pretty poor, or at least it did to me (maybe I was just being thick). Then I realized that with it, I can, for example, open with something like HL Corsola or the the Kyogre in this set with Scary Face, slowly power them up... and if things look back, rip all their Energy off them and onto another copy of then (or another appropriate Pokemon), then Briney or Super Scoop up to deny my opponent a prize. I could even move all the Energy to Pidgeot, Briney the active, bring up pidgeot, replay the active Basic, Move the Energy to it, then retreat Pidgeot. Or you can leave one Energy on the Active if it has a useful attack (like the examples mentioned, or this Swamper itself) and let it go down swinging while the lion's share of it's Energy is not lost. For now, you can even mix it in with Watercall Swampert and basically run an Water deck similar (but not identical) to the popular Magma deck.

Another example, more obvious example:

Take your basic Gardevoir deck, add the new Gardevoir to it, and you basically can have one "free" Psyshadow a turn. It may not be good with all builds, but I have seen a lot of people spend slots on Potions and the like, and let's be honest, even when focusing on something Energy intensive like Gardevoir ex, you aren't going to want to Psyshadow three times most turns. One "Free" one is still mighty potent.

So please, if you have seen any combos like this, list them, unless it's just using the reprints: we all know Rare Candy is a great card. ;)

I am really starting to think this is another solid set from Nintendo.

Camerupt EX's second attack can be used with magcargo (smooth over) to always discard an energy.

The reason I think Swampert isn't going to see much play is because Aquapolis Kingdra's always had that power, and never seen any popularity. GSSS Ampharos does that strat a lot better, and has a better attack to back it up as well.

I have condemned the set until my fingers hurt. There are some cards in the set that could work, not not many. Like 5. lol.

Swampert - I think Otaku explained this card well.

Sceptile - You can play with with DX Jirachi, so that you can use it's power, when there is a grass energy on it, and he won't be put to sleep. With DX Magcargo, it is exactly like a pidgeot only your not using pidgeot and your using 1 basic and 1 stage one. I have a vague memory of a card that hit for big damage but then confused itself. It probably isn't legal, but it would go well with this Sceptile.

Camerupt EX - Discarding the top card of an opponent's deck is cool. Some decks have started popping up. The best idea I have found is Blaziken (Fire Starter), DX Magcargo, and Camerupt EX. You use Magcargo's smooth over power to put a fire energy on top of your deck, you then use Camerupt EX's second attack that does 60 + 20 more for each energy discarded and you discard the top card of your and your opponent's deck. So with Magcargo, you guarantee yourself 80 for 3, and next turn you can use Blaziken to firestarter that discarded energy on to a pokemon on the bench. It has speed, alright damage, and looks cool with the whole deck being fire pokemon...well other than dunsparce.

Dusclops EX - I was thinking of an idea with EM and R/S Gardevior where you psy-shadow an energy on dusclops, heal the damage, attach a boost and hit for 80. You play it with magcargo or pidgeot, and just keep pulling the boost, and every turn, you deal 20 more damage. So you do 80, then 100, then 120, then 140, then you run out of boost and just do 100 every turn after that. It lays damage counters so it gets past the metal pokemon, and yeah.

That's about the only ideas I could come up with. It's still a lame set in my opinion, but the art is very nice and makes a great set to play limited with.

For myself personally, I look for combos not only for killer tournament decks, but to see what might "Work okay together in a fun, casual deck" for this, I see Blaziken and Ninetails. Blaziken is already a nice little self-combo, but the Nintails adds two kinds of AUTOMATIC status that, depending on flips, can damage up pokemon. Lead with the Nintails, maybe even first turn with the help of the now-reprinted Wally/Rare Candy and firts turn auto confusion. No too shabby. You could, for a time do R/S Gardy, the new one and the Dustclops EX. A few Psyshadow, potions and the Gardy healing power, boost and DustyEX can be a force. And the artwork should scare the 10- age group into submission

My fireplace...

How about HL Milotic? Evolve, clear damage, S!TM into Milotic EX, and lock rock-lock.

Combo for EX Emerald?

My Binder....,

ehhh, The EX's are good, but not great. The Swamp/Sceptile will see more play when the format shifts i bet. =)

I wonder if we will see an increase in status condition decks once warp point leaves the format? A lot of this set seems to do an automatic status effect.

Fools!!!!! MILOTEC EX OWNS ALL! ok, it will be a tech card for sure, especially in rock lock environments. Play with Magnetons,a nd blastoise EX, plus Kyogre. its brutal trust me, rare cany all you want, neve worry about being brought down to size lol.

Her is the combo i see, Milotic EX + Milotic+Blastoise EX. ok the general idea is thus
play water onto the feebas(2-4 onthe bench) Evolve milotic and heal all the damage, then put some more energy onto it, then drop another milotic, heal, then drop milotic ex. make it where they cant devolve you.

Dusclops+Genegar EX. make gengar no longer weak to dark pokemon. simple there, and hit them for lots of damage.

someother great options is Catrune Ex, turn one, drop that, confuse, say they have a lone dunsparce, drop caturne turn one, then confuse them, either there attack will work, or you will win. pretty fast, easy, and devastating. then you can hit for 70 IF they have damge

Play him with Damphy, if its an evolved pokemon, make them take damge, and hit for 70, its like a stage 1 Dark Tyro.

Lets not forget a Trans deck either

Dark Drag, Ven Ex, and the new swampert, it is a lot of stage 2's i know, but move any energy you want :) a novelty deck i know lol.

Kyogre EX(HL) with mr stone porject, pull2 energy up, combo that with the beauty of magneton(dragon) and you can hit 90, and replenish your deck lol. also u can then use Lady outing and pull 3 energys out, and hit for 80. pretty fun if you ask me :D

after today the set isnt all that interesting but i have also attempted to find the lesser strategy.

cacturne ex-no doubt his power is really good. obviously no multi/dre/heal/scramble/any other i might be forgetting, cant be played. attacks are fairly decent and people mentioned earlier in the thread of a speed cacturne. swarm with wallys on the 1st-2ndt turn with a psybeam is decent.

medicham ex-mini muk. thats all exept no bodies. the attacks are not that great but hes still decent

milotic ex- hes good.very good. we all know that. im prolly not the only one but the 2nd attack it really really good. 70 and move an energy to another of your pokemon. if theres a feesable pokemon who uses an energy stackable attack(ta walreign/dusclops ex/something of that sort.?)

not really much else that comes to mind at the moment but those are some.

The_Matrix999: Your opponent cannot attach any special energy, except darkness and metal, to their ACTIVE pokemon. They can still attach the energy to their bench.
