Countering the Metagame

First off, I'd like to give credit to Jason K. and Chris F. for helping out with the idea of the deck. Jason mentioned that Monarchy would be good again with Crystal Shard, and Chris brought up the whole fighting with Lanturn thing to me :D.

As most of you know, Monarchy is a deck based on using Nidoqueen and Nidoking to beat down on the opponent. It's usually a consistant winner against the popular Amphy/Ttar deck (Which I call Rock-Lock) due to the ability to OHKO both Amphy and Spin Tail Ttar with ease. It's been a strong deck, but it could never consistantly beat the ohh so popular Dark Dragonite. The speed and resistance was usually just too much to overcome (not to mention the brineys). Monarchy has a nice new card to take care of Daggy now though: Crystal Shard. Shard will also help against the new Salamance EX. The thing about Monarchy though, is that I don't know why Nidoking is in there! The 10 damage it adds to Nidoqueens attack, IMO, is not significant enough to make you play an extra stage 2 line. The attacks are horrible as well, so lets play something more useful:

Pokemon: 23

3 Nidoran Female
2 Nidorina
3 Nidoqueen
3 Chinchou
3 Lanturn
2 Pidgey
1 Pidgeotto
2 Pidgeot
4 Dunsparce

Energy: 16

3 Fighting Energy
3 Lightning Energy
4 Multi Energy
1 Heal Energy
4 Double Rainbow Energy
1 Scramble Energy

Trainers: 21

4 Steven’s Advice
4 Celio’s Network
2 Copycat
4 Rare Candy
3 Crystal Shard
1 ATM Rock
1 Strength Charm
1 Mr. Briney’s Compassion
1 VS Seeker

Clearly, Rock-Lock and Dragtrode are the 2 most popular decks in the format, so anything that can beat both of those consistantly should be a winner. If it were a standard Monarchy deck with Nidoking, it looks like this deck might have some trouble with Crobat EX. That's where Lanturn comes in. Lanturn KO's the Crex and Pidgeot easily, and also takes out the less popular Blastoise EX. Only playtesting will show for sure, but right now, this deck looks like a beast :D.

Very nice strategy. I'm just looking for the "BigChuck01, why did you post this here?" post from someone from another board.

I like it. But I would do this:

-1 Crystal Shard - I don't think you will need 3. Will your opponent ever have out 3 dark dragonite, or 3 salamence EX or even 3 rayquaza EX? Maybe 2, but also I guess it helps against resistance. But I feel magnetic storm would help there aswell.

+1 Magnetic Storm

-1 VS Seeker - I don't see the use of one VS Seeker. Just add one more to an Supporter you don't have 4 of.

+1 Mr. Briney's Compassion

Everything looks good. Really, take my advice with a grain of salt. Different players play differently.

Yea, all my "CHUCK OMG WHY DID YOU GIVE THAT DECK TO THE NOOBZ" comments comes over AIM, heh. People even ask me to delete the decks I post ocassionally. Talk about Spirit of the Game :(.

Thanks for the suggestions. I could prolly drop a Shard for a 2nd Brineys, seeing as I really want to fit it in, but 1 VS seeker has saved me a lot in playtesting, so I'm gunna keep that for sure :D.

Dude if you're getting bombed by people cause you show your deck to others you should be all like:
*Slaps Person On AIM* You don't wanna mess with this YEAH!!! *Keeps slapping jerk on AIM*

I can't believe no one else thought of this...... Nidoking isn't needed, that's a good point. I agree with Hasu, seriously good luck with this because its a great idea.

i was wondiring, which lanturn?im guessing the one from hl.

-1steven
-1chrystal shard( i think)
+2 TV

i dont know but thats what i would do....

The only reason Nidoking is good with Nidoqueen is because the 'king helps boost the 'queen past the critical 100 damage "barrier".

ya but the extra 10-20 dmg is unnecessary with a card like crystal shard.. queen can easily do 70 dmg a turn.. pidgeot nidorina and a lanturn is gg

also, what chinchou would be used?

Those last 8 posts were totally awkward and unnecessary.

Chuck... King with boost, DRE etc is 1337... ;/
Besides, that 10-20 DOES matter, wtf are you guys talking about; remember all those times you needed a strength charm for the OHKO?

And the whole point of Nido is to easily swarm, without discarding energy, without worrying about energy type defficiencies (or however it's spelled), using high HP pokes that won't get OHKO'ed consistently and are hence briney-able. King also abuses Queen's power more. Also lanturn makes you lose quicker to regular Nido variants.
And 4 RC with no king and a stage 1 line kinks things up a bit =(, you'd need like 3.5 RC to make it perfect lol.

It looks good, but it has nothing over other Nido variants. Either go hardcore lanturn or hardcore nido, I'd say.

-____-- It WAS good anyways, and deoxys doesn't change it at all, because all of the actual Deoxy's suck.

you cant reliably ohko anything, not gardy (even the normal one) deoxys ex (that sucks though), blaze ex, and you have big problems vs gengar.
