First off, I'd like to give credit to Jason K. and Chris F. for helping out with the idea of the deck. Jason mentioned that Monarchy would be good again with Crystal Shard, and Chris brought up the whole fighting with Lanturn thing to me .
As most of you know, Monarchy is a deck based on using Nidoqueen and Nidoking to beat down on the opponent. It's usually a consistant winner against the popular Amphy/Ttar deck (Which I call Rock-Lock) due to the ability to OHKO both Amphy and Spin Tail Ttar with ease. It's been a strong deck, but it could never consistantly beat the ohh so popular Dark Dragonite. The speed and resistance was usually just too much to overcome (not to mention the brineys). Monarchy has a nice new card to take care of Daggy now though: Crystal Shard. Shard will also help against the new Salamance EX. The thing about Monarchy though, is that I don't know why Nidoking is in there! The 10 damage it adds to Nidoqueens attack, IMO, is not significant enough to make you play an extra stage 2 line. The attacks are horrible as well, so lets play something more useful:
Pokemon: 23
3 Nidoran Female
2 Nidorina
3 Nidoqueen
3 Chinchou
3 Lanturn
2 Pidgey
1 Pidgeotto
2 Pidgeot
4 Dunsparce
Energy: 16
3 Fighting Energy
3 Lightning Energy
4 Multi Energy
1 Heal Energy
4 Double Rainbow Energy
1 Scramble Energy
Trainers: 21
4 Steven’s Advice
4 Celio’s Network
2 Copycat
4 Rare Candy
3 Crystal Shard
1 ATM Rock
1 Strength Charm
1 Mr. Briney’s Compassion
1 VS Seeker
Clearly, Rock-Lock and Dragtrode are the 2 most popular decks in the format, so anything that can beat both of those consistantly should be a winner. If it were a standard Monarchy deck with Nidoking, it looks like this deck might have some trouble with Crobat EX. That's where Lanturn comes in. Lanturn KO's the Crex and Pidgeot easily, and also takes out the less popular Blastoise EX. Only playtesting will show for sure, but right now, this deck looks like a beast .
