there are plenty cards that read Place X damage counters on defending pokemon. Question is does that count as damage? for example if ganger from SF uses his attack that reads place X damage countering on defending pokemon on an umbreon that just used moonlight fang does the X damage counters still get trough?

same thing with a Smetal energy does that energy prevent 10 damage from the damage placement? also if a baby pokemon is alseep and there sleeping face ability is active does the X damage counters still get placed? and from what iv found these type of attacks are not effected by weakness and resistance correct?

just for some info as to what im talking here are some of the attacks

sneaky placement, shadow room .. are the only two i can name off the top of my head.

and the last one is about the card defender, does defender stop stuff like flash bite? and the above types of damage( sneaky placement ect) and when damage is prevent does it happen before or after weakness and resistance?? thanks for the help

placing damage if not the same as doing damage.

In the case of Umbreon's Moonlight Fang, though, that blocks both damage AND effects.
Placing damage counters is an effect, so Moonlight Fang still blocks that even though it is not damage.

Metal energy doesn't protect against damage counters

Placing damage counters gets past Sleeping Face.

Since it's not doing damage, it's not affected by Weakness and Resistance.

Defender does not stop placing damage counters.
