This CC was 2 hours away and registration started at 10 a.m. so needless to say it was an early start to a long day. I couldn't decide between two decks Scizor/Cherrim or Regigigas. I end up going with Regigigas just because it felt right.
Round 1 vs. James A. (Magnezone/Palkia)
I didn't think that this would be that much of a bad matchup, but I was wrong. He and I joke about not really knowing what our starting Pokemon did. So we kind of thought we might have the same thing and we did. Palkia vs. Palkia. Basically, we both take about 5 turns just setting up. He sets up his Alakazam and Magnezone and there just isn't much I can do about it. He benefits more from the Palkia starts than me. His free retreat and energy manipulation is just too much. Couldn't do anything.
0-1
Round 2 vs. Tyler K. (Empoleon)
I got a quick start with Regigigas and he couldn't do too much. I would Restructure out his Empo lines before he could set them up. Pretty easy win.
1-1
Round 3 vs. Steven ? (Leafeon/Weavile)
VERY VERY close game. I got an Azelf start, which doesn't help much btw. I take a late game chance and Sacrifice my Mesprit and he has 1 prize left I have 2. I KO his Weavile via Restructure/Switch combo. Then, he warp points to his Leafeon Lv.X that can hit 120 and my Palkia Lv.X 120, BUT luckily I had played Snowpoint early in the game and he ran no counter. Next turn I Restructured and showed the energy to retreat to Regigigas and win.
2-1
Round 4 vs. Trevor M. (Gigas mirror)
Basically we swapped KOs. Mesprit was the big difference maker and he teched in a Milotic for this mirror. Both of us really didn't know how to approach the mirror game. With one prize left, he gambles on a twister and fails. I luckily drew my last switch as a prize the turn before (I used one in the early part of the game then he Giga Blasted one from my hand and the other top of the deck in one attack) and I Restructured his Mesprit, switched to Gigas and won the game.
3-1
There was only top cut of 2, and I missed by percentage points. 3rd is ok I'm happy with it though. This was the best day of competition I've seen in some time.
