How does this card work? Like

My active is Darkrai G and theirs is a SF Gengar and I have a Lucario GL on the bench. I go Darkness Sleep, and I would do 50 times two. Which would be one hundred and THEN would it put to sleep and deal the damage getting around Fainting Spell? Or would it already have to have damage on it for it to work? Thanks in advance.

Read your Darkrai G a bit more closely. It say if your opponents active already has damage counters on it, it will put it to sleep. With your setup, if it did have damage counters on it, it would activate fainting spell. Your best bet would be to get 20 damage or 2 counter via some method before you hit and not have Lucario GL on your bench. That way you will be safe from fainting spell because it will miss it's timing.

Just to spell out the math

Your setup:

Fresh Gengar = 110 HP

Darkness Sleep: 50
Lucario GL: x2
= 100
No KO
No Sleep
Possible fainting spell Next hit

Gengar with 90 HP

Darkness Sleep: 50
Weakness: +30
=
Hit for 80 leaving with 10
Sleep because of attack effect.
Possible KO between turns not from damage missing fainting spell.

Edit: And you should probably ask this question in the ask the rules forum.
