Days of downtime for PTCGO?

Consider this an open letter to the folks who run the PTCGO servers:

Hi.

You are probably busy. But I just wanted to mention that I haven't been able to log on for what seems like days.

Worse, there is no information about how long the maintenance window will be, or any information about what is going on. There is the little box in the upper right on the pokemontcg.com site, but those times are so random as to be irrelevant.

I really like the online game a lot. You have done a really nice job with it. But your change management procedures are terrible. Little or no warning. Downtimes that stretch past the posted maintenance window. Poor communication with users as to what is going on.

I know that the site says "beta". But your company is giving out a card in every pack of their product inviting people to use your site. Pokémon is in effect selling this as a product. You really need to find a way to make the site more dependable, and you need to work on better IT practices in terms of upgrades and changes. That isn't about whether the site is "beta" or production. Its just about establishing and following better methods of doing your work without so badly disrupting your customers experience with your site. Having your game go down for long periods of time with no real information as to why or when they will be back up is not only bad business, its bad IT.

Again, I like the online game. It is a wonderful accomplishment. I just like it a lot better when it actually lets me log on to play.

Good to know that they actually do put some better estimates and updates out there. But you only get that info if you dig down two levels on the site and know to look in the community forum. They should post this sort of thing in the "News" section where news on the March 13th outage was posted. Or better yet they could have a "Why the Downtime?" link on the front page and even on the game login screen so folks know about and can easily get to these updates in the forums.

Sounds like a pretty serious bug, though. Not a fun situation to deal with.

Hello friends!

We implemented several improvements in the communication process between the shop server and the game server during this maintenance window. During testing we identified an error in this process which prevents items from being delivered to the game client after a code or booster credit is redeemed, though the code or booster credit is still considered to be expended. We cannot bring the game out of maintenance until this issue is addressed, nor can we roll back the change at this point.

Due to the lateness of the hour, we have elected to keep the game in maintenance overnight. We have extended the maintenance window to 3/21/2013 at 5:00PM PDT to ensure that the teams responsible for fixing and testing this error have sufficient time to do their work. As always, this maintenance time is an estimate and is subject to change. If work finishes early, the game will exit maintenance early. If additional time is needed, maintenance will be extended.

We appreciate your patience while we work to address this matter.

They do look great, and you can tell reverses and holos apart now! For some reason though some of my EXs are reverse EXs...
 
It is back up? I had to uninstall and reinstall to get the patch to work now it say to check my internet connection....Is this going to be a ongoing issue every time you guys do a patch? uninstall, reinstall oh wait another update...uninstall then reinstall....sheesh....

I have this same issue every other update.

I also noticed that the text is somewhat messed up when you hover over your cards on the bench, anyone else experiencing this?
 
servers are down AGAIN? patch and everything updated.. all 5 steps.. now it's down?

Read the website. Emergency maintenance until 10pm... so try again in half an hour and we'll see.
