Hey guys, since HGSS will be releasing Double Colourless Energy, will we be allow to use the old base set Double Colourless Energy too?

Yes. Since it is reprinted, you may use Base Set Double Colorless Energy cards.

Yes. You also shouldn't need any sort of reference when doing so, since the text change is negligible.

I disagree. Base Set didn't have "Special Energy", and that term alone has many in game affects. I assume you WILL need a Card dex print out or recent version.

I guess it's alright to use them together with a reference from HGSS. Then I only need to gets my hands on one (which shouldn't be to hard if you participate in a prerelease). IMO uncommon can sometimes be harder to get than rares. A lot of traders neglect anything that ain't rare saying that they are not worth trading. Also there are not that many uncommons per pack combined that the amount of uncommon in a set is often way bigger than the rares.

The ruling that corresponds to this situation says that you'd simply need a copy of the CURRENT card to use as a reference.

The base set card will default to whatever the new card's text.

You won't need a reference.
DCE was always a special energy, whether early prints of the card had that printed on it or not.
It has a name. That alone meets the definition of a Special Energy.
