Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Does your league encourage scooping lost games?

It comes from the action of scooping up the cards on the table.
It's not just Poke-speak, it's the actual action taken.

Here's an example of Scooping that should help you:

My opponent has pretty much taken out my strongest Pokemon (or two). I have no Night Maintenance and my Claydols have been KO'd. He has 2 fully powered up pkmn on the bench and active. OH yea, and I have no Bench.
I see no chance of winning because the other guy only has to get 2 prizes to win.

Scooping up my cards, I forfeit or concede the battle and quit, without actually seeing that my next card was a Cynthia's Feelings or POV or Professor Rowan.

We don't either encourage it or discourage it, we just do it if its blatantly out of control and is clearly just a matter of time.

When you have maybe a dozen people each week, we prefer to just move on to the next player / new decks and save the 5 minutes.

Be careful encouraging that for league play.
You're going to wind up with players scooping after their first KO and once they realize they're getting the same points for a two minute game as for a 20 minute game, you'll have them whizzing through their stamps all on one day.
Beware!

Our league only lasts about 1/2 the time as most other leagues, so we do a 30 win/20 loss point system. To prevent forfeiting, we only offer 10 points to someone who forfeits.

At my league, points aren't given unless the game lasted at least five minutes, or one of the Masters was watching and confirms that it's a donk. We always tell the little kids not to scoop after the first turn.

I give no points to scooped games, I discourage it, even though some people in the league will do it anyways, (Why, I don't know) despite knowing I give no points.

My league has no policy either way on scooping, but the key thing to consider (for both League Leaders and players) is that the readme document does say: "You may opt to give a player no League points for a match if you feel they are working the system."

In my opinion, there's a difference between scooping early-game when things look hopeless versus late-game when things look hopeless. In the late game, if a player KNOWS his/her deck and has essentially been checkmated (ex. main attackers KO'd or otherwise discarded, and draw engine shut down, no Night Maintenance or Energy, etc.), I feel that scooping is still meriting points, but that is a slippery slope. If you've been checkmated, just fight it out, even if your opponent wins, rather than tipping your king (OK, so that analogy is not exactly identical) in single-game matches.

However, any scoop in early game (e.g. before one player has taken 4 Prizes) should not merit points, in my opinion.

Of course, there is the idea to have this taught for best-of-3 matches, but that should be easy enough to just say, "This would be a point that I would scoop in Game 1 of a best-of-3, but since it's a single game, I'll tough it out."

I can't imagine scooping during league play. I'm there to learn, and I learn more by trying to fight my way out of a bad situation than I do by winning easily.

(The exception is when I'm totally checkmated and the game has gone on forever, and it's the only way to make sure I'll have time for another game. Even then, I feel bad doing it.)
