Donphan/Techs- Is it really that good?

I know most of you have probably heard of the deck by now so I won't go into too much detail. It's basically 4-4 donphan with other tech lines and max potions, built for the HS-ND format. In the past week I've seen a several of good players running it, and winning. I'm just wondering, does it deserve all the hype it's been getting?

No, I think we're talking about the deck that's been popping up in norcal. Is this the one that was played at Morgan Hill by Team Silver?

Call me crazy, but every post in this thread is essentially Donphan and Dragons, except the max potion line.

I played against a Donphan deck at the tournament cabd mentions, and it ran Terrakion and Tornadus. If it had interesting trainer lines, I didn't see them, because Vileplume. I was a little surprised by the Tornadus. Not sure if this is the deck in question or not. In the one game I played against it it was fast but didn't hold up under trainer lock.

Same here. I played the deck in the last round. It looked interesting but didnt hold up against Chandelure. It took a 3 prize lead then Chandelure swept from there.

I built Donphan Tornadus Terrakion for Genny and she went 3-2 @ the last CC

Did it have anything to do with this list he is talking about or was it something random you came up with? Did she get paired down against me in the last round? cause I thought we were both 2-2 when I took the win.

No idea. Just built it for her on like Thursday. Oh then 2-3 then. I thought she was 3-2. woops.
lulz ok. It was a most defiantly an interesting deck that caught me by surprise. But I was just drawing everything I needed XD

The dekc i'm referring to doesn't play terrakion or tornadus from what i've seen

You said this was a Heartgold Soulsilver-Next Destinies? I would love to see more of a list from something like this.

I ran Donphan/Yanmega during BR's that was straight speed and Max Potions. It was actually surprisingly good. The sudden rise in Electric decks hurt it. I dropped my Yanmegas for Dragon techs, which help a lot since it gives you a lot of options to hit things for weakness. I also dropped the Max Potions, figuring I could get most of my prizes quicker than anyone could get rid of my Donphans, then I could sweep with out Dragons.

When you add in ND, I think its pretty good since its will do alright against EX's. But, in the current format, Max Potions aren't needed just because your biggest threats can OHKO you. But, Max Potions help a ton against Reshiplosion.
