If energy acceleration decks rule the next format it won't be much different then it is now where G&G and Magmortor rule the format. It will just be a different kind of deck dominating.

I haven't played in a long time but I can take a pretty educated guess that when a format changes usually a different kind of deck tends to dominate that format.

I am actually hoping that they dont reprint DRE and Scramble energy because right now its almost impossible to use strong basic pokemon that require a lot of energy and don't evolve.

There is a key difference in the domination of specific decks, versus the domination of a specific deck type. As of now, while Magmortar and G&G rule, there are other styles of deck, such as disruption (Absol) and T2 (Banette and sort of Blissey) that are still playable. If only energy acceleration decks can win, the only deck that would be left in our enviroment would be Magmortar, of course assuming energy acceleration decks is all that can win. Cutting out deck types from a game is far worse than cutting out a single deck.

Do people think that PCL will continue the LV.X card mechanic since DP5 is the last DP set? It just seems to be the theme for Diamond and Pearl, as Pokemon-ex were for the ADV set of cards. What do you think they could come up with in place of it?

We'll probably keep it. It's a more practical way of keeping ultra-rares in the game than Pokemon-ex because you can't realistically run more than 2. And the ex mechanic wasn't specific to the Ruby/Sapphire sets, so I think we'll keep them around for a while.

As far as the normal rarity mechanics go, I have a hunch that we might see some Gym sets in the near future. The most logical step at this point is a Team Galactic's related set since we're still fairly fresh off the game (like TATM for R/S gen, TRR for FR/LG gen), but we already have a couple TG trainers, and the Pokemon associated with them are kind of lame. It's basically Toxicroak, Crobat, Purugly, Skuntank, Honchkrow and the legendaries. If we were still in small set mode (capping sets below 90), this might make sense, but there's more untapped design space in the gym leader mechanic IMO.

And it's been easily over 7 years since we've even seen a gym leader card! TATM kinda counts, but not really.

I personally like the Gliscor LV X and Metagross alot and look forward to those. Magnezone is really good too but not as much as it's hyped yeah the dmg is good for 2 energy and the power is nice way of speeding it up, but the auto-paralyze is a double edged sword. If Magnezone got popular u'd see Xatu techs every where and the paralsis could end up screwing u.

What the heck does omastar do??? I can't find it's scans.

And gliscor is soooooooooo good. It can continuously shuffle itself into your deck so you can use it's power over and over again. And it can do 80, which, with poison, can be ridiculously, this while they're paralyzed.

my favorite art is energy patch!!! d00d it is so sweet looking!

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

WHOA JIRACHI IS BROKEN

Jirachi LV.42 – Steel – HP70
Basic Pokemon

[.] One Wish: Choose 1 card from your deck and shuffle the rest of your deck. Then, place the chosen card on top of your deck.
[M][M] Doom Desire: Discard all Energy attached to Jirachi. At the end of your opponent's next turn, the Defending Pokemon is Knocked Out.

Weakness: Fire (+20)
Resistance: Psychic (-20)
Retreat: 1

that is way too nuts. does that still apply to pokemon that are retreated or leveled up?

yeah jirachi + unown E + snowpoint temple = too broken for my tastes.

yeah, but all the DP sets are called Diamond and Pearl: Blah Blah Blah. Even the Ex R&S sets weren't called Ex Ruby and Saphire: Sandstorm, just Ex: Sandstorm.

They will most likely keep up with level x's, though.

Jirachi's doom desire puts an effect on the defending pokemon. Unless the card says otherwise, such effects ALWAYS go away whenever the state of that pokemon changes (like it evolves/levels up, or retreats)

...That would be pretty insane if it didn't end when a pokemon retreated. It's first attack isn't even that bad, with essentially a weaker Smooth Over (it eats your attack, unlike the power, and isn't abuseable with something like Ludicolo DX), but on a basic.

Nothing terribly impressive. The Garchomp's always been something to look forward to. Glaceon could be a pain simply because we don't have any metal that can hit it hard. The eeveelutions might change the format a bit but I think there are faster and stronger things. The only thing they have is the ability to be a wide spectrum of types. Fossils will be something to watch out for. Kabutops Aerodactyl decks will probably be a big thing to over come. Magnezone and ampharos together would be good but the fact that they are two stage two pokemon in an electric deck hinders them.
