dumb questions but need to double check

What is considered "in play"? i would like to know for 2 decks that i am currently running. mostly wondering if discard is considered "in play"

also T1 can you rare candy and level max?

The discard pile, your prizes, your deck, the Lost Zone and your hand are NOT considered in play.

If you go second and can play trainers on your first turn, you could use Level Max or Rare Candy. Trainers and powers can break the normal rules of evolution.
