- 3 Cyclone Energy
- 4 Call Energy

STRATEGY:
Set up Garchomp for Guard Claw and abuse the redux + Nidoqueen's epic heals + Buffer Piece (played carefully) + PH+ (also played carefully) to stay alive for ridiculously long amounts of time. Drop Dusknoir DP when your opponent lets their guard down to flip the table on them and start Speed Impacting everything they play FKO.

* - Should I use Spiritomb PA? I'd need to obtain via trade

** - Should I use something else, like Expert Belt?

I've been testing something similar, and both Spiritomb and Expert Belt are excellent in this deck. The deck really needs to set up, and Spiritomb buys you time to do that with Darkness Grace. Expert Belt is essential imo, It makes Guard Claw a viable attack. The less you have to use Speed Impact the better.

I would . . .

-1 Chatot
-1 VS Seeker (I love VS Seeker, but it always gets squeezed for space)
-2 Buffer Piece

+2 Spiritomb
+2 Expert Belt

Also

-1 Psychic
+1 Fighting

No reason not to, and you never know when you might have to attack with Claydol (Flytrap Lock).

Okay, yeah. It looks like there will be quite a bit of SP at my metagame, so I'm thinking of trying to include a Mewtwo Lv. X; it + Lucian's = awesomesauce. And playing single tech supporters makes me want to play VS Seeker...

Do you think Spiritomb alone will be enough, can I live without Mewtwo Lv. X?

If I knew there was going to be a lot of SP in my metagame, I would tech Mewtwo for sure.

Garchomp X's point is Dragon Pulse and the extra HP, not Restore (though I could use Restore if I wanted).

-2 Chatot
-2 Buffer Piece
+2 Spiritomb
+2 Expert Belt

-1 Vs Seeker
-1 Night Maintenance
+1-1 Mewtwo Lv. X

Any other thoughts?

Azelf, to fish out your Dusknoir or Mewtwo (if you run it) from your prizes. It might help. Yes, go Expert Belt over Buffer Piece.

How is it I end up with an Azelf consistently in my actual hard-copy deck but I never remember it in the decklist? o_O

On this list, what would you take out for Azelf? I know what kinds of things this deck needs; what I don't know, is what it doesn't need.

-1 Chatot
-1 Ditto
-2 Buffer Peice
-1 VS Seeker
-1 Night Maintence / Palmer's
-2 Cyclone

+1 Azelf
+2 Expert Belt
+1-1 Mewtwo Lv. X / 2 Spiritomb
+1 Warp Point
+2 Upper

Two questions. How necessary is Chatot in this build? How is it's Sally and Gengar Matchups? Sally = weakness. Gengar = speed/ resistance.

I don't think you have to worry all that much about Gengar... with Nidoqueen and Claydol G'd there's not much to pick on (They'll be pushing like... 10 damage a turn if you're careful). Be smart with BTS out so you don't tempt a Relicanth play, and also be smart with your bench for when Nidoqueen comes out to play. Don't KO any Gengars with an Belt'd Chomp, it's easier to get in KO range with a Belt'd Uxie, anyways, and avoid Fainting Spell altogether. In the end, you should sit comfortably after you get ahead in prizes.

Would definitely look into getting a Warp Point in there. If you go with Spiritomb, you'd want Uppers in there for sure so you can swing back hard after its KO'd. Dunno how you feel about how many would be good, some people are comfortable with 2 but I like 4 for consistency since Garchomp doesn't really need any other kind of energy (And Nidoqueen can use them too). My most recent Garchomp attempt ran 4 Psychic, 4 Call, 4 Upper.

Chatot is absolutely necessary as cannon fodder and acceleration. If you have another Pokemon you prefer for this purpose (coughcoughSPIRITOMB), then you can use that. I wouldn't run Garchomp without something to stall out front, though.

As for matchups, well, I have a poor metagame to experiment in, so this is all theory ._.

Gengar matchup is relatively favorable. They're immune to Dragon Intimidation and resist you, reducing your damage to ridiculously low amounts with Guard Claw - however, they also fail hard at doing damage to you unless you Level Up at a very poor time.

Salamence is another story. The Salamence matchup is all about speed and timing; if they limit bench space and only play SFmence, you're going to be in big trouble because you can KO them and they can KO you back for double prizes. They aren't scared of Dragon Intimidation because they have to discard energy anyway. You need Expert Belt and Guard Claw to survive their Steam Twister, and that's so not worth it. I can't say anything definite about this one; I'd need to play a Salamence deck or two to see.

@Shen: That's my issue, is getting ahead in prizes; they recover so much easier than I do. But yeah, Gengar isn't that big of a deal, now that you bring up Uxie. I keep forgetting about Uxie ^ ^".

I like the idea of Upper Energy. And I've wanted Warp Point once or twice, so yeah. How about, overall:

-1 Cyclone
-1 VS Seeker
-2 Buffer Piece
-1 Psychic
-1 Night Maintenance
-1 Lucian's Assignment
-2 Chatot MD

+1-1 Mewtwo Lv. X
+2 Upper Energy
+2 Spiritomb
+2 Expert Belt
+1 Azelf|Warp Point
