I recently started playing retro formats and assumed that all Wizards of the coast formats used identical rules. However, I just found scans of e-card era rulebooks here: https://www.judgeball.com/archives/tcg-rulebooks/
and noticed a minor change: Base set era rules say that when starting a game both players choose their active pokemon and then flip a coin to determine the starting player. However Expedition, Aquapolis and Skyridge rulebooks all say that you should first determine who plays first, then draw seven cards and place your active pokemon.
Should I use this new rule if I play Neo-on format (uses cards from Neo Genesis to Skyridge) or e-Card format (uses Expedition, Aquapolis and Skyridge) ?
