Easy Computer/Wireless Question

Hello, my computer doesn't want to connect to my wired network, so I think I'm going to buy a wireless usb adapter so that I can connect to my existing wireless network (yeah, I'm on my Wii right now writing this LOL). So on eBay, all the USB wifi sticks have LAN in the title. I actually want to connect to WAN, not just local. Will this cover my need to access the full internet? Because last time I bought a USB to LAN/ethernet port, and it didn't connect to WAN :mad:. It was completely useless to me. So will a LAN stick work for me? I appreciate any help. I can't wait to get off the Wii ;)

you need a card that will let you connect to the internet
most new laptops come with one others do not.

Card = goood

wireless usb adapter? like the Nintendo one won't work. You need to install a card/chip/thing

Well, the wireless usb adapters aren't like the Nintendo ones. They take in wireless signals rather than spitting one out. Yeah, maybe I might get a PCI card for my PC to replace the Ethernet card.

Now here is something to think about. I put a live Ubuntu 7.10 OS CD into my computer to check if that works on my wired network... and it does... just stupid doesn't want to work Windows >_>
(now only if I understood how to install stuff on Ubuntu :lol:)

I don't get why it does this. (and it used to be the same way with my iMac G3, that could connect to the wired network, but the Windows PC couldn't :confused:)

You answered yourself.

Does anybody know anything good for Ubuntu 7.10 that I can use to sync stuff to my iPod? WINE wasn't allowing me to complete the iTunes install.

YES! That's what i ment PCI CARD!
I ment get one of those, then you will be pick up any open signal around you :)

You can purchase a USB Wifi card. It should work, but they have a little weaker range.
They are LAN cards, not WAN. Your wireless router will connect to the WAN.

PC -> LAN -> Router-> WAN -> Internet

As for Ubuntu and your iPod, see: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9266. It is a little old, but I don't think that they would remove functionality.

Thanks for answering my question, I really appreciate it. I noticed that that iPod softwre came preinstalled with Ubuntu, seems like it will work ok.
