Yeah, open office has been around a long time and it does seem to work fairly well (at least last time I played around with it). So basically, the only people not able to use the Excel file at this point would be the ones without Excel and without broadband. Seems like that would be a relatively small group.
And, yeah, I agree on the decision to use Excel, no doubt! Beating Word into doing what you're doing with Excel would be ugly. Can I assume that the Excel data is driven off a Pokepedia export/download of some sort? I mean, is the process of importing the card list and links and such automated in some way so that the Excel file can be kept in sync without killing yourself?
Oh, and just being a typical user now: It'd be nice if the items in the drop down list themselves were links or provided some sort of small "click here" button next to each so that you can view the online card scan immediately instead of swapping between worksheets and re-searching for that same card again.
