Energy Draw vs Power Cancel

Ugh, I feel like I should know this, but I couldn't find Power Cancel rulings on the Compendium and for some reason couldn't think of anything to compare it to. So...

If I try to use Delcatty's Energy Draw and my opponent uses Power Cancel, what happens? Does the energy get discarded? If not, must I show the opponent the energy I planned on using?

This came up while playtesting and I just showed my opponent the energy and let him decide then if he wanted to use Power Cancel or not. When he chose to 'Cancel my Energy Draw, I just left the Energy Card in my hand.

Discarding the energy is part of using the power, so that doesn't happen either.
If one did not want to show the specific energy card and the opponent wanted to verify that you had one, a judge could be called.
