Yeah no, I'll pass. No more TCG for me. They are lucky I'm addicted to buying boxes. I don't see (So far with what we have, even with that crappy mega venasaur) any other decks besides Darkrai, Blastoise and Virizion/Genesect being competitive this year. Not to mention how important Tropical Beach is now (so sad).

I don't think I'll be playing TCG this year...

From my current testing, I've found a LOT of viable decks. My current contender for BDIF (I'll let you guess what it is) isn't any of the decks you listed.

I think the current format is fine. Could it be much better? Of course. But it is not nearly as centralized as you are making it out to be.

I do dislike the exclusivity of Beach, though.

Big basic/garb or Empoleon. Probably Rayboar...

If it wasn't for the exclusivity of Beach there would be more viable decks in the format than there are right now most specifically Stage 1/Stage 2 Setup decks that need Beach for early to mid game setup. RayBoar would be a contender in Standard since it would help keep Virizion/Genesect in check and Empoleon might actually be viable again If it gets a better partner than Dusknoir or Kingdra in XY Base Set that's playable while not being another Basic EX but If it is then so be it.

Honestly, I think people are too afraid to use set-up attackers. Cards like Spiritomb and the Windfall Tornadus EX are pretty underrated I think. (Especially now that Catcher's use will drop slightly.) They are a pretty viable alternative to Beach, except on turn 1.

Empoleon won 2 regionals in france. I think it is a very worthy contender. The man used Dusknoir/Leafeon tech.

These cards are bad now because you can't use them when going first.

Darkrai was nerfed so hard I highly doubt it will ever be as strong as it was before, not even with Yveltal.
There is no other deck that relied on Catcher as much as Darkrai did. You still can play Catcher with Junk Hunt, but you can't plan your turns any more and have to Junk Hunt for 2 Catchers.
In addition, the T1 attack rule is bad for sableye, making it almost impossible to Night Spear before the opponent can evolve. It didn't happen that often before either, yes, but it was an option that made Darkrai stronger when facing evolution decks.

There have been worse formats. I thought about getting out of the tcg, but I am keeping my cards until the release of XY to see.

I still have my cards, it's hard for me to stop collecting >_> But playing is a different story. I dislike what they have done to the game so far. I though we had some hope with the mega evolutions, but venausaur turned out so bad too =_=

Actually the format is way better than how it was 4 days ago… just play a few games and you'll notice the great difference between Catcher with errata and Catcher without errata.

The only concerns I have about it is the Bo3 in 50 min, because it is a fact that games take more time, and the 500 CP needed to qualify, that in some countries it's difficult to achieve…

Other than that, the format is fine, I don't really care about Beach price tag.

NXD-On is nowhere near as balanced as MD-On and HGSS-On was at least before Catcher was printed in Emerging Powers. Plus there wasn't as much power creep in the game back then and we still had Battle Roads which IMO was the best draw to get people into playing Pokemon TCG Tournaments at their LGS, League Challenge Tournaments on the other hand seems like it could be the opposite of what Battle Roads accomplished in past seasons.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you rileysill32 since I've been thinking about quitting the Pokemon TCG for some time now but I'll also hold on to my cards until XY Base Set is fully revealed by February 2014 which is still 3 months from now. I saw some leaks on the Internet for the XY Base Set with reprints for Super Scoop Up and DCE as well as a new Trainer - Item called Pal Pad which gets back Supporters from your Discard Pile, aside from that not much so far.

HoLoN_TrAiNeR, I agree with you, these new rules should be a good thing for the format.

I'm of the opinion that slower games will make better use of the Bo3 50 min design, because fewer matches will reach game 3, and likely be unresolved in game 2. That means the winner of a legit game 1 will win the match, as it should be.
