Enhanced Hammer vs. Hydreigon

If a special energy is attached to Hydreigon(NVI 79/101), would Enhanced Hammer be able to use its affect on said Special Energy card since it would be considered a basic Darkness Energy?

"basic"?
Where do you see the word "basic" in Hydreigon's Ability?
It turns the energy type into {D}, but it doesn't make a Special energy card into a Basic energy card.
It would still be discarded.
