Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Erik Nance's Top 32 Worlds Report with LBS

Taking it to the house! Nice job with that monster man. Me and Curry have been saying how amazing steelix is since it's release and you proved it. :D Congrats

It's really nice seeing something rogue hit top 32 but it sucks you hit what you did and got knocked outta the tourney; I would've much preffered a steelix deck vs/ luxchomp -_-'

Gratz on all the testing that obviously payed off in the end eh? :D I bet ur engine is something pretty nice.

But I'm curious...you mentioned a gigas list in the beginning...what kinda list was it? My curiousity is killing me :3

Round 4 - Yamato with Luxchomp

So I finally got the chance to play Yamato, recognized as one of Japan’s best. Yamato had grinded in the night before with a Luxchomp featuring a 1-1-1-1 Gardevoir line, a Purugly G, and a Quagsire SP... interesting to say the least. I had a Pachirisu start again, calling for two Onix and a Chansey. Yamato had the Ampibom G start, which actually slowed my deck down a little, but I quickly gained a lot of speed and started tanking a Steelix with an Expert Belt and some Special Metals. I could tell that Yamato was trying desperately to figure out how to approach my deck, as he benched an Absol (Baleful Wind) and a Purugly G, hoping at some point to discard some of my valuable trainers. He started to rush me with Garchomp C, but I easily healed all the damage he dealt to Steelix. Once I KO’d the Garchomp, Yamato attacked with a Luxray Lv. X. I healed and used Gaia Crush with a PlusPower for the KO. He seemed a bit surprised, but then tried to Baleful Wind my relatively small hand while he could build something else up. He discarded an Onix while I topdecked a PONT. I pretty much stormed from there on until Yamato brought up a Ralts and used it to look at the top five cards of my deck. He looked through my Discard Pile and reviewed all the cards I had on the board. I was confused since I had one prize left to his six, but then he finished, smiled at me, and said, “That’s a really great deck” (well, in broken English anyway). I considered it a mark of respect and thanked him in return.

That's probably the coolest thing I've heard of happening at Worlds.

You should be very proud

Nice job at worlds Eric. Ironically the night before my brother said I should play a deck that would be fun, how about Steelix Prime. I really should of listened to him :D.

sorry about your top 32 matchup Erik

(I was wondering what you got paired against)

i think you had the most solid choice for the tournament,
nothing else has that much of a solid SP matchup

Thanks everyone for the kind words and for taking the time to read my report, I know it was a little bit more lengthy than most. I will not be posting my list, but there's a lot of good info in the report that will help any deckbuilder chip their way to a respectable build. Additionally, if anyone would like advice or tips, feel free to PM me. To those who already have, I'm responding right now. :)

Great job Erik! Love the deck. I tested Steelix before Nationals, and I had huge issues getting it consistent. I tried it with Claydol and it didn't work out too well as we discussed in the lobby. It was a great deck choice because it beat a majority of the format...just had a few autolosses, and its a shame you got paired with one.

Hey, I was the last round Plox you faced. I was trying to think of a way around it right when I recognized who I was matched with. I was trying for 2 turns to get a psychic / lucians from my cosmic powers since I couldn't use your engineer's adjustment =.= haha to get the gallade out. Unfortunately it was too late and your second steelix was already getting pumped up. I knew the game was yours, but I still had to try so I was trying to plan out a way to go around it. This was when the judge came and called me for stalling and honestly I don't know how you feel about it, but it really ruined the flow of the game. I personally thought that you had the game either way, and basically I was just trying to see what I could do to possibly make it a little more interesting and on top of that if you thought I was stalling, I would've had no problem if you just told me to hurry up and make a move. Anyways, it was a really cool deck and it was a great pleasure playing you. Thanks for the game =)

Good Metagame play. Luxchomp can't deal with Tanks. I think any Net Decker will be frustrated anyways. I see FIRE making a strong metagame play given all the Fire weak cards that have been added. Although I would think that ERL would be able to oneshoot it.

Life Herbs always underestimate, it works in certain decks. R0uge deck builders always need a BDIF's, or we would not have an inspiration for our decks in the first place.

Congrats on a great season! My friends were planning on using Steelix at Nats but got chicken haha. O and you got me with the LBS title too lol

Ever since I heard someone was playing Steelix, I was surprised and wanted them to win. Amazing deck and bad luck that you had to play an auto-loss T32 when almost everything else was an auto-win.

So you were the guy of the pidgey in 2006? You're a LEGEND at my country Dude =D!,
Good job kicking people, hope you become a LEGEND worldwide someday with your building skills
Props on that!

You should've gone with the lunarock. lol

Congrats Erik, I was rooting for you to go further but the luck was not on your side this year.

GL in years to come.
