European Regionals closed events ?

closed events :(

I'll be asking for confirmation from out LD that the events are to be free.

I'll also be asking what criteria will be used to decide upon local residence.

and just for good measure if we will be one-and-done too.

I'm looking forward to hearing the answers to your questions, especially about what criteria will be used to decide upon local residence!

I've been told that the residence criteria will be the same as that used by the UK government.

UK regional events should be free, but then the CCs we supposed to be free too.

no comment on one-and-done

Cool! But then... erm... What is the criteria used by the UK government?

Isn't France gonna have Regionals? And if so, wouldn't you rather play in the Regionals in France, if you had to choose?

lev I'm not certain : I think there is a 6 month minimum. There may be something to do with visas for those outside the EU. The uk government website probably has the answer. If you are at university in the UK but a foreign national then I suspect the university can tell you your status as a resident or not.

NoPoke, I'll check the UK government website. But actually I think I'm a UK resident as I have like a paper which tells that I'm renting a flat and so on. Moreover I have a French ID which is fine here because France is part of this beautiful concept that is Europe (and so is the UK as far as I know - even though I keep discussing it with my "British" mates ).

Fireborn, apparently only CCs are run in France, no Regionals. And if I had to choose, I'd rather play all the tournaments I can attend

My question (on the OP forum): Are we (LD/TO) allowed to open up Regionals for foreigners?

Answer (from Jarrod): TOs are not allowed to change the event format unless first getting approval from their Local Distributors. So, only Local Distributors are allowed to make their Regional events open.

For the Netherlands this will probably mean that their Regionals will be open events.

Hopefully other LD's in Europe will follow to open up their Regionals...

Yeah, probably because they didn't know that they might open up their Regionals or they are just happy that the dutch aren't able to come and pick up the prizes...

Haven't you ever questioned the reasoning from PUI why they decided to close European Regionals? It is because in some cases Regionals feed Nationals (or in other words: Regionals are qualifiers for Nationals). Is that the case in Germany? No (correct me if I'm wrong). Is that the case in the Netherlands? No. So that's why I posted my question and got the answer from Jarrod that the LD might decide to open up their Regionals. And that's the recommendation I gave our LD to open up our Regionals, because it's my opinion that the reasoning behind closing European Regionals doesn't make any sense.

Even if Regionals are qualifiers for Nationals, there is no need to close them.
Byes/invites for Nationals can be given to the first National player in any group.

I also can't find a reason to close Regionals.

Today the dutch LD confirmed that dutch Regionals will be open events. Hopefully other European countries will follow...

There will be one in probably Aalsmeer OR Eindhoven in May, and there will be one in Groningen (organised by me and Type O Negative) probably either April 17th (Easter Monday) or April 23rd.

We'll let people know the dates as soon as they are confirmed, no worries, since we're still in the planning phase of them.

The Belgian regionals will remain closed events, as announced beforehand, based on feedback from the Belgian TO's.

I guess us dutchies are feared throughout all western europe then XD
j/k.

anyway, Fireborn, is 23 april still an option now that we know the BNL cup will be held 22 April?

23rd was an option, if we weren't able to book the venue for any other day I'm in Holland in April, but it looks as though it's now gonna be Easter Monday, 17th of April. More details coming soon!
