Basically, a local Radio Station in Sacramento, CA held this contest called "Hold your Wee for a Nintendo Wii". The mother of a family drank 2 Gallons of Water and later died. Nintendo isn't responsible for this Contest, if anyone asks. Read the Article for more information.

In my opinion, I blame both the Station for holding the Contest in the first place, and the mother for taking part in it. Who would do crazy things for a Nintendo Wii?

homeofmew Sent me this, and I decided to post it. Discuss...

Anyone can sue anyone, if they find an attorney to take the case.

Winning is quite another.

JMHO,
'mom

I will post w/o comment on the att'y issue, etc. What I found appalling in this situation was during the show, a live caller to the show told the hosts, people can die from drinking too much water, started to explain the effects, etc. and the host(s) commented, "we know all that, that is why the contestants signed a release" DOH! I'm sure they had medical experts on hand to FULLY ADVISE the contestants (NOT).

Sad story.

I'm sure they had medical experts on hand to FULLY ADVISE the contestants (NOT).

If they did not fully advise the participants that their lives were potentially at risk, then they can be fined for criminal negligence.

If they did, the case will probably be a huge loss and embarrassment to further enhance the tragedy of the mother's passing.

Well the person who did it is stupid for doing it. I mean just pay for the darn thing!

People get so cheap nowadays that they resort to contests to win what they want....

The radio show thought it was cool to come up with an out of the ordinary contest. They could've just held a trivia contest or blank caller wins a Wii.

Good old America, land where anyone can sue anyone, and they quite often do.

That said, at least people got fired over the issue.

It's called Hyponatrema I think I misspelled it but I have seen 2 people die of it in front of my very eyes... ( at Raves when kiddies are all hopped up on their party enhancers and drink 2 much water ) -_- Also incase it isn't mentioned in the article ALL of the members of the radio station who participated in this contest were fired, funny enough they threw in remarks every once in a while including " Is anyone in there dead yet? "

Immy: Find a Wii on the shelves somewhere for retail. Not easy to do. Contests and promotions are fun when doen the correct way and in a safe way.

Age check: Who remembers 'WKRP in Cincinnati' TV sitcom? Remember the Thanksgiving episode with the "free turkeys giveaway"? I wont spoil the punchline yet, but if you saw the episode, you know what I mean.

If your gonna resort to a contest like that, you might as well stand outside Best Buy a few hours before opening in cold weather rather than drinking 2 gallons of water.

The person was an idiot for doing the contest, if they were putting there life in jeopardy after SIGNING a release form, then they might as well just stolen one or wait in line for one....

Well you have to realize how STUPID people are... The majority of our community is rather so to say borderline re-tarded? ( I'm not making fun of actual handicapped people ) Most people are not aware of Hyponatrema or is it hyponatremia... now I dont know ... but yeah How was she suppose to know that if she drank 2 much water she would die... you have to realize the majority of people are not educated very well..

That is so traumatic. How were a radio station allowed to do that? 10 people were involved. Didn't one of them think "There's quite a lot of insane people out there who might risk their life for that Wii. We may have a lawsuit on our hands". I mean they could have had something else stupid like a quiz on who knows the most about wee to win a Wii? That would be witty and exciting but they had to go too far. Yes, the lady was stupid. That doesn't make her guilty though. It's illegal conditions for a competition.

When you look at it deeper, what's a Wii in killing someone? Only a games console at a few hundred dollars.

I am ashamed to say i saw it. Blame Loni Anderson......

Les Nessman ftl lol

that same thing happened to my friend's uncle, when the sega dreamcast came out they did the same thing. nobody gave a Snit about his death though.prob cuz dreamcast crapped the bed

If you look at it objectively, someone who doesn't know not to drink too much water drinks too much water and dies. Darwin at work.

And to think, nobody would've even thought up a ridiculous contest like this if Nintendo gave it a REASONABLE name.

Yet another reason why Wii is the WORST name ever for a game system.

I heard about this last week. I do blame the radio station even though I haven't read the article. People have died from drinking too much water before, so they should have known better than to hold a contest like that.

It's so sad that she died doing something for her children...

This quote pretty much sums up my feelings on this issue.
