Fighting Tag

[Box of Fail]

If my Machamp Prime is on the bench, can I use Fighting Tag even if my active Pokémon has no Fighting Energy attached? I'd assume no, but I'd like to be sure. Thanks!

EDIT: Figured it out via Compendium. Silly me. For anyone who wants the answer it is no you cannot.
