Just in case I didnt get the numeral right, Im speaking of the new online MMO.

How big is it going to be? How will it compare to world of warcraft?
Does anyone have any general info on it?

I think it will be less popular than World of Warcraft, more popular than Age of Conan. Just my guess.

My roommate is playing the beta right now. It's very laggy, and when i watch him play it - i don't see why people should play it. I see it as FF11+ in my mind.

Does he play it on PC? And does he have to use that rubbish playonline system?

yes, the game's beta is PC only right now. it doesn't use POL anymore, no.

the game is pretty laggy, you definitely need a powerful machine to run it, . you probably can find some good videos on YouTube with example gameplay to get a feel of how it works. I wouldn't try and compare it to any other MMO out there, because it's not meant to try and supplant one or another, just meant to be another one for people to play.

*Disclaimer: I am the aforementioned roommate. I am not a celebrity paid to impersonate him*

It's still in the beta stage. They may be able to smooth out some of the lag as the beta goes on. They'll have to, in order for it to handle as many people as they're hoping to get.

I'm annoyed I can't get the stupid downloader to finish downloading all the junk for the beta so I could give it a try...sucks because I was originally gonna try getting into it over WoW (since Cataclysm looks like it wants to mess up the 2 main classes I play), so I'm pretty much waiting for the PS3 beta to begin and hopefully get into it.

But yeah, try downloading the beta if you can to get a feel, remember it ends on Sept. 19th though, so you only have a few days to give it a look.

It's very FFXI/LOTRO feeling in it's instanced storytelling. The mechanics are probably just about as deep as FFXI, where you constantly think there's things you're not quite getting. Their current implementation of the "time limit" on how much xp you get should probably be inversely realized as a time limited xp bonus, because it's just so much feel bad right now.

After a few days i really didn't feel like getting back into it, i might if my buddies in Japan get big into it like i did FFXI. Of note, LOTRO's F2P system is really cool, i've always liked that game, and their deed/virtue system is brilliant, doubly so with what they've done in the F2P world.

But admit it, you're going to buy cataclysm so you can fly around stormwind/orgrimmar right?

Well, as my laptop technically should meet the specs for FFXIV (though that stupid benchmark says I won't be able to play at all), I will be getting Cata mainly because I know I can run WoW. Right now I'm unsubscribed though, nothing to do after you kill the LK after all.

They flying I really couldn't care about, yeah it's more convenient, but heck, I never bought epic flying despite having over 30k gold over 3 80s, I mean if you're a raider like me, you're used to just getting summoned everywhere anyways, so there was no real point to it.

I can't play 14, being that I don't a good enough PC to play 14.

Hoping to try to play on lowest settings...
I tried getting the open beta but no it won't run..

Well I still be on FF XI online (Bismarck) though D:.

I wanted to get into FFXI, but it's really just on life support nowdays I think...if FFXIV proves to be a success, XI's shutdown is all but immanent. That and I heard there's a fairly steep level of entry into XI as well.
