Fossil 1st edition set

Hi Guys,
First time collector,so after some browsing of this forum I`ve decided to start with the Fossil 1st Edition and then maybe move onto Team Rocket.

Basically I`m a complete noob collecting wise so have no idea what these sets are valued at (say NM or M).Also if you guys good give me some pointers on best way to get started ie. better to buy complete set or individually or any advice in general would be great. Oh I`m in Australia too so costs might differ with shipping and costs.
Thanks.

The complete 1st edition fossil set can run you anywhere from 100-150 dollars. My advice is to buy the original 151 Pokemon card lots for around $100 dollars, since that is a mixture of Base, Fossil, and Jungle. That will give you a good starting ground and you can fill in the holes there.

This is a good site to have a checklist of the cards in different sets, great for reference

Lastly whether you buy an entire set, or buy cards individually is totally up to you. Usually it is more fun to buy a big lot of bulk commons, uncommons and rares to get all those and then fill in the holo's and ultra rares as you go along.

In any case, make sure you continue to have fun collecting :)

When you take shipping into acct, especially to AU, buying the set is waaaay cheaper. Now if you want to sell off extras then buying lots would work. Lot of work though.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Yes that was something I had thought about-that it might get a bit boring just buying singles and whats the point in that!!!

I like the idea too of starting with the original 151.I think I might actually start with that and great link aswell, very helpful.

One final question in regards to the 151 card set. I cant imagine they would be sold too often but if the 151 original set was all 1st editions, what kinda price range would we be talking(obv condition dependent)? I would think it be pretty pricey?!?

Note about the checklist. The Base Set one is still not complete. It should calculate fine on its own, but it won't calculate correctly into the totals sheets.

Most sellers (including myself) prefer to sell completed sets of the original printings. Basically, selling jungle set, fossil set, etc. I have seen people try to sell the original 151 Pokemon sets, but the prices vary widely based on which cards are used in the 151.

As for your last question, the price on a set like that will be extremely high. This being because many of the cards people use for the '151 sets' come from the Base Set. Since you are wanting a complete 1st Edition 151 set, that will mean you will have to obtain some of the most difficult cards to come by in the base set. Those mainly being Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. These 3 alone are going to cost you upwards of $400-ish.

Another small thing to note; as far as I know, there is not a 1st edition Mew card, at least not in English.

Thanks for the reply-I`ve noticed that all right, seems to be way more of the"single sets" for sale and any of the 151 sets that are for sale seem to have alot of cards in poor condition which is not really what I`m after.

I spotted a base set of 1st editions for +$2k,so i`d be guessing a 151 set would be +$5k at least.

I dont think ill jump into buying any 1st editions yet as I`m still learning about the diff values of certain cards!

What would you value a PSA 9 1st edition Venusaur at??? I see one for sale on ebay but I feel its slightly too much!

PSA 9 1st ed base Venusaur should run appx 220.00 plus shipping on eBay. I normally accept 200.00 with free shipping.

I actually think it's a pretty good idea. I actually started collecting a few months back and decided that Jungle 1st ED. would be my first set. I managed to get my hands on the full set at a very reasonable price. I find the best way is to bay the full uncommon/common set first, which you can get at very low prices on ebay, then bid or look on Pokegym for the rares and holos. You can also get some unopened boosters at a a good price on ebay, if you want the 3 ones they used to sell and keep them sealed as part of your collection.
