Fossil Cards as starters

I hear that you can now choose to start of the game with a fossil pkmn as your active, but if the only pkmn that you have in hand at the beginning is a fossil then does that mean that you start with it or do you have the option to mulligan?

which makes some of us reconsider fossil cards...even zre doesn't really.
