Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Gengar, a beast for Nats??

It is strong, no use denying that, but it digs its own grave.
Because there are ways to outplay gengar and ways to make it uncapable of even moving. And since everyone expects Gengar, everyone will play a deck that can do so, everything else would be foolish.

I think Gengar is definitely one of the best options.

I think I'm a relatively apt player, but Gengar is probably my hardest matchup..regardless of the deck I'm using. It isn't as easy to play around as you make it sound. You get behind on energy attachments when you attack with Uxie and then you have to somehow get your active out of the active position when you want to attack with that Uxie.

Gengar players are also aware of the tricks out there to get around Fainting Spell and can respond with their own counters. I think having a Nidoqueen tech in a Gengar deck answers many of the "problems" the deck faces (such as poison and Crobat).

I think it's a very good choice.

I agree. I built it and have only lost once in the 2 weeks I have played it =D, but me and colins list is a bit different.

I've seen SP decks take only two prizes, and still handily beat Gengar. There is a point in a game, where Gengar can simply do zero damage to anything.

ditto is such a fun tech VS. gengar, just bring it out mid-game and snipe their claydol, they won't see it coming, and they'll be stuck for a while (this only works in a deck where you have room for ditto and could get damage on it as well)

Colin said it the best. If you can keep up with the speed of Gengar then it is DEFINITLY easy to beat. If you are behind in anyway then it is nearly impossible to play around it.

You cant really say gengar is not that good, if so, answer these q's
1. why has it won so much (it got 2nd at a nats)
2. why has it forced the format to use unown g's (dont tell me dusknoir did it)
3. when you play it, you have to burn so many cards and tech in so many things, if it is bad, why does it control the format and make people change there decklists?

1. Infernape DP
2. Machamp did it more than Gengar at the beginning, and then when Gengar became popular, people just kept it in the decks.
3. I would say less than half of the people actually prep for it. Everyone tests against it, but that doesn't mean they tech for it. Uxie LA was not a tech for gengar, it is a card thats played because it's good.

Gengar has 2 attacks, 1 puts 3-6 damage counters on pokemon, the second can do 30x the amount of damage for each card in your hand that isn't a pokemon or energy. Its a Stage 2 with a Power that either way gains you a free prize.

What kind of question is that??

1) Many many many many players don't know the match up as well as they think they do.
2) Because without Unown G, Gengar is broken.
3) Because otherwise, Gengar would do tons of damage.

Look, Gengar is a great card. Great. The flaw of the deck, is top tier players will know the match up, they will be prepared and they will beat it handily, save poor starts. They can control Gengar's damage output, and at that point in the game, what can Gengar even do?

After seeing it's performance at the UK Nationals, I'm really going to have to disagree with that. Alot of highly ranked people were given a horrid time by it.

Skill does play a role in being able to work around Gengar ... but you only get that oppertunity if you get set up. Gengar is fast enough to prevent that in many games and once you are behind against Gengar it's hard to catch up.
