Gengar EX/ Crystal shard

If my Gengar EX has a Crystal Shard and is confused and I try to attack and get a tails does my resistance against colorless stop the 30 damage?
and
If I do get tails do I discard the crystal shard?

Confusion failures place damage counters, rather than do damage, so resistance doesn't figure into the situation you describe. Thanks for asking; sorry for the delayed answer.
