I think I may have found a decent strategy for the dp1 gengar!!:thumb: Check it out and tell me wat u think!! This is a raw list so I definately need work on the trainer line.

Pokemon: 21

4-2-3 Gengar dp1
2-4 Mr. Mime
1-1 Ariados
2-2 Dodrio

Trainers: 25

4 Prof. Cozmo's Discovery
2 Celios
3 Phoebe Stadium
1 Team Galctics Wager
3 Rare Candy
1 Night Maintenance
1Scott
2 Warp point
2 switch
2 Pokemon Fan Club
4 Energy Removal 2

Energy:14

9 Psychic
3 DRE
1Boost
1 Scramble

Strat: Get out Gengar as fast s possible. Set up mime. Life drain is a flippy move but when it works, it's awesome!! I'll take those odds as far as brigin a 150 to 10 in one attack. That attcks is only for the big guys. Main attack is Shadow dance, putting 4 damage counters on ur opponents pokes in any way u like. Then he gets switched w/ someone on bench. Thats where mr. mime comes in. His body negates all attacks done by pokes w/ 2 or less nrg cards on them. ER2 helps w/ that too. Ariados and Dodrio techs. I use warp point/phoebes stadium combo to make them swich their poke and I retreat again using stadium brigin gengar back up for more pain. Ariados is in to give opponent 1 more energy on retreat cost. It doesn't matter for me. Gengar and mime have 1 retreat to begin with. Phoebes lets u retreat for 2 less. Still retreating for free!!

Like I said, trainer line is whacked and also need help on pokes.

You definitely need some Windstorms to take out any Cessation Crystals or Battle Frontiers that your opponent plays to stop your energy draw. The CCs would also hurt Mr. Mime. And maybe add some Mr. Stone's Project so that you can get some energy when you need it to use energy draw. Similarly, you could increase Night Maintenance to get energies back into your deck late game.

Personally, I like Mime Jr.'s Mime attack. That could be very useful especially early game to get set up. The ER2s are definitely good for Mr. Mime's power. But I see him more as a staller than an attacker so I think you could go with less like 2-3 or even 2-2.

I like the techs but all the 1-1 lines scare me that something will be prized when you need it. So I'd if you cut the Mr. Mime line then you can raise the Dugtrio and Dodrio counts.

I played Gengar-Shedinja at US Nationals (finishing 6-3, in 44th place I think) and Cessation Crystal will destroy this deck. Crystal Beach won't be much fun either against your DREs (Phoebe + Scott will help you take care of that).

I had a 1-1 Dugtrio in my deck as well. Worked great when I got him out. But, again, Cessation Crystal renders him useless. Just another Poke to KO.

Not crazy about the Unown. And if you're going to go with ER2, then go all the way. I would drop the 1-1 Dodrio line (although I really appreciate what you're looking to do with it) and add 2 more ER2.

What is your "perfect bench" (Assuming a Gengar is active)? 1 Dugtrio, 2 Mr. Mime (you want 2 because when Mime is active, what if your opponent plays Warp Point? You want to feed him/her another Mime), a 2nd Gengar, and Delcatty.

This is just me but I would do this...

1. Drop Unown E
2. Drop the 1-1 Dodrio line
3. Drop Warp Point. Because of your sniping + hitting and running, I don't think you need it.
4. Add 4 Windstorms. (Yeah, they're 4 "dead cards" against non-Cessation Crystals, but these days you either play powers or you play against powers. You need these.)
5. Replace Boost Energy with 1 Scramble

Consider a Celebi * tech. His power is flippy, but when it works it's perfect for this deck.

How to get 2 more ER2? Not sure to be honest...

I'm not crazy about Team Galactic's Wager in here. I think Copycat or Professor Rowan would serve you better. Not crazy about Cozmo either. I'd rather go with Copycat or Rowan.

You may also find that a 4-2-4 Gengar line is too many Gengars. Cutting that back to a 3-2-3 and only 2 Rare Candy worked better for me and it would free up space for the additional ER2 plus 1 more Night Maintenance.

Energy - I went with 4 Psychic, 4 Multi, 4 DRE, and 2 Scramble. The DREs should be maxed because they don't affect placing damage counters. I used Multi to help in case Dugtrio got out there. 2 Scramble - 2 worked good for me. Your call, but DEFINITELY bump DREs up to 4.

I played this deck at league the other day, and I think the warp point actually is a decent strategy, becuase as soon as they get enough energy attached to something that get past mr. mime's body, you can rotate it back to their bench, then they will have to waste energy to retreat, or you just bought yourself another turn or two. It worked well in the games I played.

And I totally agree about the cacturne strategy, except in my case I put in a vileplume. Not as 100% reliable (also a stage 2), but it also doesn't require a separate stadium to work. Gengar's 40 dmg/turn just isn't enough, but adding poison pushes the deck over the top. Poison also works awesome with the life drain attack, as has been pointed out. It also works becuase if you know something is going to take 10 dmg between turns, you can put 1 less dmg counter on that poke, and put it somewhere else.

I don't think this deck is the uber, but I had a lot of fun with it. And it's annoying to play against, which also makes it cool. :)

I used to play Misdreavus (LM) with Gengar (DP) and have recently replaced the Misdreavus with Mr. Mine to see how it works. ER2 at 4 is a must if you are relying on Mr. Mine's power to slow your opponent down. Windstorm is also needed to get rid of the Cessastion Crystal that will cripple how your deck works. Cyclone Energy is another way to disrupt your opponent and protect against Cessation Crystal.

In my old deck I didn't like Pheobe's Stadium as it tended to get removed it more than I liked. I replaced that with Smoochum/Jynx (DF) to act as a starter/free retreat mechanic for the whole deck. 2/2 Smoochum/Jynx seemed to be enough to help with set up and get one out onto the bench consistantly.

Gorn had some great input but I have to say that I disagree on Team Galactic's Wager. I'm not playing Gengar but in the decks that I have tested TGW has worked great for me because the opponent needs to shuffle his hand back into the deck as well. That has saved my bacon a number of times when I think my opponent has their Lv. X or just a huge hand. So I would keep at least one in the deck and you can decide on your favorite or a combo of them for drawing - Copycat, Prof. Cozmo, Prof. Rowan, or TV Reporter.

Heather, I can see an upside to TGW. You're trying to "energy starve" your opponent and winning TGW improves your chances of doing that. Also, if YOU lose, you've still got Delcatty's energy draw (assuming that 1 of your 3 cards drawn is an energy).
