I've got a 10 year old friend who is really into Pokemon. He loves the TCG and is a pretty good stratagist for a beginner. But, his parents don't let him play. They are very overprotective, and he's only ever gone to league once, and they always arange something else when he wants to go to an event. They aren't against Pokemon; they just don't want him "with those people" (they think everyone, including kids who play TCGs are kindof wierdos. The definition seems to gloss over their son though ).
They are justified in the fact that the only League in Victoria is pretty lousy. It's in a loud small room, the league leader doesn't stop the kids from ripping and stealing, and the league gets randomly canceled every now and then.
What do you guys think I could do to get him involved, and get his parents to losen up? He so wants to get involved, but know one listens to 10-year-olds, and he in't the most persistant. We've been trying for a while, but he's still young enough for the "Why don't we have a playdate this weekend?" or "We might let you get a (insert the name of a toy or stuffy collectable here)" phrases to make him completly forget.
Any ideas?
