I've always had a fondness for Dark types, at least in the TCG. The Special :dark: Energy which increased your damage, the sychic: resistances which have always been helpful and so on. And personally, I think :dark: as a type has never before been as strong as it is now, with the HS-on format we will soon have. So why not try building a toolbox based on the :dark: type and its useful utility Pokémon?
Pokémon (20):
3-2-3 Tyranitar Prime UL
2-2 Umbreon UD
2-2 Mandibuzz BLW
2-2 Zoroark BLW
I/S/S (26):
3 Pokémon Collector HS
2 Professor Oak's New Theory HS
2 Professor Juniper BLW
2 Twins TM
2 Seeker TM
1 Flower Shop Lady UD
4 Pokémon Communication BLW
4 Switch BLW
2 Rare Candy UL
2 Energy Exchanger UD
2 Junk Arm TM
Energy (14):
4 Double Colorless Energy
4 Special Darkness Energy
4 Basic Darkness Energy
2 Rescue Energy
A quick explanation of my deck's Pokémon lineup:
3-2-3 Tyranitar Prime UL.
It's a great card all around for this new format, spreading 20 for :dark: if your entire bench consists only of :dark: Pokémon and doing 120 for :dark::dark::colorless::colorless: - enough to OHKO Reshiram with a Special :dark: Energy!
2-2 Umbreon UD.
Umbreon is a proven tech, and one which can destroy unprepared decks, rendering them completely unable to attack. Its attack Moonlight Fang costs :dark: and does a measly 30 damage. However, it's got an effect that definitely makes Umbreon worth it. The effect of Moonlight Fang basically makes Umbreon immune to attacks from Pokémon with Poké-Powers or Poké-Bodies next turn. Sadly, this doesn't apply to Abilities, but there aren't a lot of Pokémon with Abilities today anyway, and very few who actually attack. This attack is usable on a lot of the metagame's popular cards such as Donphan, Machamp, Magnezone, Yanmega, Steelix and so on, which makes Umbreon a very nice stalling tool.
2-2 Mandibuzz BLW.
Mandibuzz is one of the new :dark: types from BLW, and it's not at all a bad one. Both of its attacks are useful, and it's got a handy resistance to :fighting: which is extremely useful in a :dark:-based deck.
Its first attack, Blindside, costs :dark: and does 50 damage to any damaged Pokémon of your choice. This is really nice combined with Tyranitar Prime's Darkness Howl for some bench sniping action - unprotected and unevolved Basics (such as Phanpy, Machop, Magnemite, Tepig, etc) are prime targets for this.
Mandibuzz's second attack, Punishment, does 40 damage for :dark::colorless::colorless:. This doesn't sound like much, but if you use it against a Stage 2 (Magnezone, Emboar, Machamp) the attack does 60 extra damage, for a grand total of 100 - 110 with a Special :dark: Energy. This is really nice against the aforementioned Stage 2s - one turn of PlusPower/Special :dark: Energy boosted Moonlight Fang from an Umbreon UD and then a Switch to Mandibuzz and a PlusPower/Special :dark: Energy boosted Punishment will KO Magnezone and Machamp!
2-2 Zoroark BLW
Now, this is a nice tech, and one that should have a guaranteed spot in any deck which runs Double Colorless Energy. Zoroark's got 2 usable attacks, but one of them really stands out. Its first attack, Nasty Plot, costs :dark: and lets you search your deck for any card and put it into your hand - a nice set-up attack, but nothing to earn Zoroark a spot in any deck, really - after all, it is a stage 1. However, Zoroark's second attack is where it really starts to shine: Foul Play costs :colorless::colorless: to use, and copies one of the Defending Pokémon's attacks to use as its own. This is absolutely amazing in a lot of situations: it can copy Reshiram's Blue Flame and do 120 damage wothout having to discard any Energy - potentially OHKOing it if you have a Special :dark: Energy equipped. You could copy Magnezone Prime's Lost Burn and Lost Zone three Energy for the OHKO (though I'd prefer the Umbreon/Mandibuzz "combo" here). You could copy Machamp Prime's Champ Buster, Yanmega Prime's Sonicboom, all of the LEGEND Pokémon's attacks, and so on. Zoroark is just a card with so many possibilities.
So, I think I've covered this deck quite nicely. It's not at all a top-tier deck, and I don't suspect it'll top cut all that much (if it even gets into public knowledge), but it's really fun to play and quite a versatile and surprising [low-tier deck]. I hope you'll try it out, and if you have the time, some constructive criticism would be wonderful.
