Goodbye BeNeLux Cup, welcome European Challenge Cup 2011

In the past 5 years the BeNeLux Cup was an International Special Premier Event tournament sponsored by the Dutch and Belgian distributors PS Games and Intrafin. I am very gratefull for their support in the past years and to enable me to organize the BeNeLux Cup in former years and transform it into what it was in the past year. Last years edition was attended by 162 players of 10 European nationalities (192 preregistrations) and stretched beyond the original scope of the tournament, viz. being a tournament among players of Beligium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg. Therefore a wider scope to European level is justified and, as can be seen at international forums, by many players desired. In order to provide a tournament of this magnitude, (in collaboration with TPCi) plans have been made in the past half year to organize the European Challenge Cup 2011. So goodbye BeNeLux Cup, welcome European Challenge Cup 2011!

The present tournament in the proposed structure and prize support will be capable of housing a larger attendance and there will be an extended prize support compared to former years, all in a venue at Arnhem (The Netherlands, a few miles near the German border) with a total capacity of circa 600 players. The European Challenge Cup 2011 will be held at Saturday 19 February (swiss rounds) and Sunday 20 February (Finals) 2011.

Hopefully within a week full coverage information about this approved K-32 rated tournament will be provided here on the Pokegym forum and preregistration will be opened shortly after.

Stay tuned for more information soon.

Here's to hoping some Worlds Invites get added to your Prize list. This looks like the European event that can finally give US Nationals a run for its attendance money. Good luck, and I hope you fill that room, and then some!

Wow, sounds great.

I knew something like this was planned, but it's nice to see this confirmed now.
I'll be there for sure, isn't too far away from here. =)
Also hoping for Worlds invites.

Arnhem is easily to reach from both Airport Amsterdam and Airport Cologna by train. International and national trains from both Amsterdam to Cologna and vise versa will stop at Arnhem. From the station the venue is only ten minutes by trolley bus lines 5 or 10. The first trolley goes at 6 am from the station!

This really sounds great^^
Hope that there will be Worlds Inviteeees as prizes for Top 2/4....
I will be there.^^

Thanks for the advice, I was having trouble finding information about the trains online...

For Trains in the Netherlands use this website (can be turned into English but I found out it's not working if you use that option)
Dutch Trains
Amsterdam Airport aka Schiphol has a trainstation which is called --> Schiphol

If you use the Dutch version this translation might help.
Plan uw reis = Journey planner
Van = From
Naar = To
Geef reis en prijs = show trip and price
I think all other part explain themselves.

Price of a return trip is about €30.
And there are what we call Weekend Retour tickets for sale. (which is way cheaper than buying 2 single trip tickets
Those are valid from Friday evening 19.00 uur till monday morning 04.00 uur
You can travel 1 day to your destination (like saturday) and another day back (sunday)
Trip takes about 1h15m

And this is the website for International Train tickets
International Trains

Coming from England you also can try to get to Arnhem from Brussels because the train from London can be taken.
However I do think flying to Schiphol (Amsterdam) and take a train to Arnhem is even cheaper (and faster).

Sorry, but TPCi did not grant us Winner invites for Worlds. Last year BeNeLux Cup had over 100 masters, and a max. topcut 8 (total 10 rounds). A few masters more and the European Challenge Cup 2011 will exceed 128 masters. There will be a maximum topcut of 32 players also. This means in above example 8+5= 13 rounds for the winner..... who needs a winner invite with a tournament with that number of rounds and a rating of K32?

There will be Regional trophies for Top 4, prizes for Top 16, Regional promo for all. Soon you get all info!:thumb:

Information about hotels, public transport a.o. will be provided in general and specific information on request. No worry about that.

I think when are 100 players in masters, so it should be 7 rounds and TOP16 or not?

On the other hand, few players from Czech republic (including me) are going to this Cup.

@ Onyxek: You misread what is written:

Last year BeNeLux Cup had ......... a max. topcut 8.... (Battle roads have a max. of 4, CC's of 8 etc. despite the numbers of competitors in a division. So had the BeNeLux a max. of 8 despite the number of competitors in a division, which was necessary with a one day tournament).

I suppose we are allowed to play with Call of Legends?

Would be a good way to start the season

@ Hampuse, eindhoven is probably the closest airport. Also Ryanair (budgetair) flies to Eindhoven airport so I would highly recommend it.

Yea I was thinking of Ryanair:smile:

Will it be a "pokemon hotel"?

Ok, so this is kind of some embarassing joke or what is main point for rename Benelux cup to European Challenge Cup ?

I personally think that that all is only about success European Cup, which was in Czech Republic. That is totaly embarassing for me and my point of view.

So I would like to know who is main organizer of this event and why he/she wanna parazite on our event name ? Is it so hard to make your own tournament or you are so unable to make event, that you have to steal name of event and its point ?

THX for answer from main organiser.

It isnt strange to rename the 'Benelux Cup', because there are many players who will be playing this event, who aren't from Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg.
