Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Goodbye BeNeLux Cup, welcome European Challenge Cup 2011

It isnt strange to rename the 'Benelux Cup', because there are many players who will be playing this event, who aren't from Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg.

Ok, but here is many more other names, that can be used, but they chose name that contains 2 words from 3, which used another tournament of same size in another countery 0_o ? Thats IMO little strange ...

Maybe.. European Challenge 2011 would be a good name also. Thereby you can't blame the organizer to add 'European' in the tournament name..

Ok, so every big tournaments will have in its name "European" cuz it can xDDD.

Anyway, I would like to heard somethink from main organizer to this thing.

I can't speak on behalf of the TO, but changing the name of this event is a completely logical move. At last years benelux cup (which, mind you, was intended for benelux players) players from more than six nations showed up. A grand total of 2 benelux players made master top cut (shoutouts to Germany, Italy and Denmark for filling up the rest of the spots). Last years BNL cup could have been called european cup already. That being said, the TO likely aspires to repeat this great event. So this year it's called european challenge cup because it is intended for european players.

I kind of agree with charlie though, the names do sound too alike.

Ok, so this is kind of some embarassing joke or what is main point for rename Benelux cup to European Challenge Cup ?

I personally think that that all is only about success European Cup, which was in Czech Republic. That is totaly embarassing for me and my point of view.

So I would like to know who is main organizer of this event and why he/she wanna parazite on our event name ? Is it so hard to make your own tournament or you are so unable to make event, that you have to steal name of event and its point ?

THX for answer from main organiser.

Last Benelux Cup already would have been "European" if it was not the point that one of the other parties in organising turned down his function. The last BeNeLux Cup had 10 different nationalities (and more participants present than the Prague Cup) present which proved it indeed had overgrown its nominal contents.
Since, contacts have been made with sponsors and TPCi for an European event. Later, in July Tomás (Snox) unfolded to me his plans for October, but the European Challenge Cup was already in progress being organised. I dislike to publish anything prematurely before all things are settled, so I kept quiet on public forums. The Benelux CUP already had CUP in the name before the Prague Cup. This CUP was referring to the trophy (original design!) the winners received at the tournament, and now we have another trophy. EUROPEAN? Yes, it is European as there are a number distributors (and TPCi) sponsoring this tournament. Please, don't be so suspiscious. There is no secret plan behind it.
NO, no European Championships. I haven't used this name for reasons I explained one and a half year ago on another thread at the Pokygym forum.

I have not "degraded" the Prague European Cup (which changed its name a few times, but was finally sanctioned as Prague Cup [yes, without European!]) nor published anything againt SNOX's well meant initiative. I respect him for what he organised at Prague.:thumb:
I do not have to copy SNOX, nor do I want to. I earned my spurs already since many years back in organising Pokémon events, he does now his style. You are welcome to participate at the ECC 2011, but if you don't, it is no problem too. There is nothing embarrassing in organising a tournament for all players to have an international competition and fun. For what it is worth in discussing with you, the "upgrade" of name was a logic result of 5 years organising International Special Premier Event which received excellent critics from those who attended. Let's keep it fun!:thumb:

Can someone answer my question?

Yes, I can. No it is not a Pokémon hotel (but you all will make it probably that way:biggrin:). The venue is not in a hotel. It is however easy to reach from any hotel in the vicinity of the train station. Information about hotels will be provided too.

Wednesday info will be up if planning proceeds as it goes now.

I will wait until Wednesday then until I ask more questions:tongue:

TO European Challenge Cup 2011

Ok, I appreciatte your explication, but I still think that this is ridiculous. 2 big tournaments like BNL Cup and Prague European Cup will have another names for next year cuz everyone can use words like "European" and "Cup". Anyway I cant do anything with this, but all in all its ridiculously embarassing and my point of view is still same - after success of our tournament you have to change name of your tournament and new name gotta contains 2 of 3 words that used our tournament first, cuz you can.

Sorry for this, its totally ridiculously embarassing.

Regards,

Charlie

EDIT : Rename from BNL to European Challenge Cup isnt IMO needed and reason that this tournament played more than only BNL players is imo totally unwarranted.

Ehm...

European Challenge Cup has been planned long ago. I heard about it first at this years Professor Cup. That time it was already fixed that the next Benelux Cup will be a kind of semi-official European Championship. That's why I said all the time that I didn't like the name for Prague Cup, but I wasn't allowed to tell anything about what was planned.

So the fact that it would be "European" was clear before the Prague tournament has been announced. The "Cup" part came just right from Benelux Cup. So there's no legit reason to complain about any part of the name.

After all the stuff Ive heard about the prague cup I dont think that the benelux cup has any benefits from "stealing" its name.
Benelux has its own history and doesnt need to profit on anyones name, it has its own reputation and what I heard about the european cup wasnt anything Id like to get accociated with either.

The benelux cup has been around forever and was always great and IMO its the only tournament that should ever THINK about calling itself anything resembling "european championship". Ive I hold a tournament in my living room and call it the european championship... you know what I mean

I heard many bad things about BNL cup, so where is true ? What heard me or you ? LOL you are ridiculous.

Guys, this discussion about the name is absoltly nonsense. LOL
Please stop this, the Benelux Cup was before any Prague Cup and as I read in this thread the name "European Challenge" was planned long before Prague Cup was planned, so where is there need to discuss about that, if it is absolutly clear.
Michal if you really think so about things like that, then go home and cry, but please don't always try to be better than the others or to make things better than they are.
Thank you.
-Filipp.

Guys, but the Prague European CUP (PEC) was discussed during Pokémon Conference (1 day before Professor CUP), where all details were settled and NL TO wasn't present. We talked about some bigger europoean tournament even earlier, but that was only gossips and it was discussed only with TPCI and it had slightly different structure.

I do not mind if your tournament is called European championships or challenge or whatever. But what I didn't like is misleading people about the story and PEC. I talked with Snox and he is far away from bothering about the names, but he explained me what happened. The PEC was discussed with every TO during the conference and in the following evening. No sign about any ECC and everybody accepted it with great enthusiasm. The next day Professor CUP took place and Snox met your TO and told him about his plans before the tournament. Then later and sometimes during the first rounds - LOL, your TO was telling everybody about some bigger tournament than Benelux CUP, which would follow in its history. You can check this with every distributor, that was addressed at first by Snox and then by your TO personally during that weekend. These are the details...

Kind regards and good luck with ECC!

"I'm bored so I discuss mundane matter"

We got your message, move on. It's not like it matters.

Do you know why the NL TO wasn't present?
I bet you don't, because if you did you wouldn't react this way EVER.

@ Rainbowgym
Lia, just ignore. Charlie (or Michal?) and Ctibor gave their opinion, not fully knowing all facts from behind the scenes (which I will not leak) and leave it that way. Some people think they can archieve a bigger ego (or something else.....) by degrading others. You have seen this before when Charlie enters the forum at other threads. :nonono: Any discussing with these guys leads to nothing, so don't bother.

I have to say you are very ambitious, trying to gather 600 players under one roof. I let you all know that we Finns highly support this idea and will have a qualifier tournament which costs 10€. Top 2 players will get travel awards to ECC tournament which makes it easier to travel AND collect other people from same leagues to come with them. Right now I know about 10 Finns who have talked about coming to your tournament even without travel support.

I would like to encourage other TO:s around Europe to make these kinds of qualifier events. In MTG this is the way they have been doing it for years and at least here in Finland it works pretty well.

See you all in Arnhem!
