great ball pt2

Ok so i guess what im asking is can we use the DS great ball with the text -

'Search your deck for a basic pokemon (excluding pokemon-ex)
and put it onto your bench. shuffle your deck afterward.'


in place of the new great ball with the text-

'Search your deck for a basic pokemon
and put it onto your bench. shuffle your deck afterward.'


now the only difference between them is the "(excluding pokemon-ex)"

now since theres no EX pokemon in format and it wouldn't effect modified play... would we be able to use the old great vs the new great?
