GTS: The good and the bad

The GTS is a :biggrin:/:mad: kind of a feature for the Pokemon games IMO. It does have some good provisions, and some "pointless" provisions as well.

You want to fill your Pokedex? Trade!
You want to offer up a Pokie for trade? Can do!
Maybe get lucky in a trade, like an event Pokemon? Bonus! :thumb:
Available 24/7? ( besides it being the internet and volnerable to net issues)- Nice!
Provides players with some way to trade who do not have a local/friend to trade with? That's why it's there!

But, on the other hand, I do not happen to have "extra" (let alone 1) Resherem or Zekrom that just so happens to be under level 9 to trade with.

I just simply wanted a Ditto from another country to see if it'll pay off in breeding to get a shiny. ALL but 1 available was not wanting a legendary that is either hacked or level 100.

The GTS can not recognize a hacked/illigitimate Pokemon, true- but the GTS is a "risk" and "user beware" kind of a feature that I believe ruins it for alot of people.

While it does have some "upsides" to it, I think the negatives out-way the feature by a larger margin then what the upside to it is.

You offer a legitimate Pokie, only to get a hacked one in return? Not even cool.

I have resources to trade for what I need, but until there are some improvements to the system, I just do not see anyone on a competative level who could really benefit from this feature. The Dreamworld is a way better addition to the games, IMO- and I see better benefits in the dreamworld then I do on/for the GTS.

Should the feature be dropped in future games? What are your thoughts, or experiances with using the GTS?

I hate when I'm trying to trade and people all want LV9 and under Pokemon. It is sooooo annoying. I still think it is a great tool and I have gotten some pretty good stuff.

Yea that one thing luxray626 mentioned is really annoying. I'll be searching for a certain Pokemon and they want something that can't be under level 9 like a Zekrom. It's like... are you seriously trading, or are you just bragging? Seriously, I'm just trying to find a Japanese female Tepig and like 5 shiny Tepigs take up that search criteria.

Same here, in Diamond I was looking for a Spiritomb on the GTS because I don't know anyone around with pokemon games to do the underground with. So I tryed the GTS and I ended up geting the E4 champions Spiritomb, the level and attacts the same and it said it was encounter in then pokemon leage. Now I rarely get on the GTS because when I do everything I'm looking for is stupid, all they seem to want it the level 9 and under leagendarys. So I think if there is a way to find hacked data in a pokemon then they should add that into the GTS so that it would help out the whole and not just the group of hackers.

The level 9 and under requirement is probably people trying to abuse the GTS to clone pokémon. It is very annoying, with the limit on the results displayed, to repeatedly come across the same impossible requests no matter how the search terms are changed.

I use the GTS solely to complete pokédex entries or obtain a breeding partner to start with, never for any battles. It's useful for that, but otherwise, I wouldn't care at all if they removed it. Perhaps if they implemented a search feature that restricted results to those you could trade for (to be turned on/off, of course) it would be of use, but I'm not holding my breath.

^^^ This times infinity. I could understand why they didn't do it in DP, since it was new. HGSS/Platinum were a little less believable, since pretty much any player who has played with the GTS more than 5 minutes wishes they could restrict like this. But around comes BW, and STILL no new restriction options.

Another search option I'd like is to be able to choose one of your Pokemon, say a Lv. 65 Honchkrow. Then be able to search the GTS for anyone who wants a Honchkrow, Lv. 60+ or no level cap. See what they've offered, and be able to choose that way instead of blindly searching.

If they have a string of code that takes hacked Pokemon and turns them into Bad Eggs, which they do, then there is no excuse for not having that same system put in as a check your Pokemon must go through before they go onto the GTS.

Yeah, it is kind of frustrating that you have too search blindly, so I do like the suggested change that you stated Ayame.
Also AT has a good point as well- if the code is "corrupted"- the system should be designed to not allow the Pokemon to even be transfered/uploaded into the database.

Why not have the system/program have some written-in restrictions too certain Pokemon- like the top say 50 most "wanted" Pokemon that are (and this is a severly exaggerated percent, but it sure feels like it is correct) 95% hacked anyways?

I guess that only the more competative players are more apt to be more legit when it comes to Pokemon.
I sometimes "donate" an event Pokemon (have not done so recently, but I can since it seems that more event Pokemon are being released) that I can not trade away that I have plenty extra's of onto the GTS.
I do this too:
clean out my boxes
everyone I know has multipals as well
It has been a long time since an event Pokie has even been released, like a "dry spell"
No one at league needs one
And after TCPI events where I can not find anyone who needs one.

I ask for "grunts" like a lvl 2 anything that anyone can log of the GTS quickly, catch, and hopefully it'll still be there for them when they log back on or possibly have one already in thier pc.
It is kind of cool to know that it can put a smile on whomevers face if they score such a pokie. (Only drawback is if they do not know/understand it's rarity that it is an event Pokie, and think it is hacked! oh well....... 50/50 gamble.)

One other thing that bothers me about the GTS is shiny Pokemon. Unless it is obviously a hacked Pokie (uh......level 20 Mewtwo anyone?)- you still trade off a legit Pokie to get a hacked Pokie in return.

I do think that it could use some fixing, the GTS is like I said a 50/50 issue with me, and I am glad that Nintendo is branching out with it's player base to provide new ways to enjoy the games. I hope that in the future, some things about the GTS change for the better is all.

I know what you are talking about with the Mewtwo Benzo, I found a lv 6 shiny Mewtwo and they where wanting a lv 100 Mewtwo :) but I think if the data is really messed up on a hack the GTS wont take is sometimes, because I tried to test the idea that the GTS will take all hacks. I hacked a Mew that had max stats and attacks that it wouldn't learn and there was TM's for and I tried to put in as a test and it gave me a error code saying that I can't put that poke it the GTS. So the GTS has some limits but I guess they have to be extrem. (P.S. I deleted that mew if anyone is wondering. I have no need for hacks and that was a test, I have a few event mews that I have trainded and I perfer the non hacked trainded kind of pokes)

So they do have some type of block when it comes to hacks of the extrem level but where that line is I don't know and the requests are a thing that only the person offering can control unless they put a thing in the GTS the makes it where you can't request the leagends at a set level, like the gender, some are only one sex or they don't have a sex so if they add a filter in there that knows that some pokemon can't be found at a level then I think the GTS would be better. Also if they take that error code that I said I found to a higher filter then the GTS would be more like a 75/25 good bad.

Are we done talking/whining about hacking?

Yes, the GTS is far from perfect.
Yes, people (young/inexperienced mostly) will still use it.
Yes, Hacking is bad - and sending a hack is low.

^ It was and is not my intention to talk or "whining"- but having to use an example to discuss what some of the issues are in regards as too what the GTS could use to be better is all.

Between the Dreamworld and the GTS- the GTS could use some improvement in people's opinion- and even though discussing it here will more then likely not encourage the GTS becoming a better- it still is a foot in the right direction to give insight/thoughts on how something can be improved.

If so, you can lock this thread if it is too "whiny"- but look at how much more the VG scene has grown and is becoming a more supported activity at TCG events- it has too begin somewhere- why not here?

LOCK'D!
j/k :p

But seriously - the GTS is a tool for those who go without. People who would rather play by themselves and don't care what they get - because they love the game. I guarantee the GTS has increased the amount of average play time for the casual players by a large amount. People being able to complete the Pokedex WITHOUT having to find someone else with the game.

You have to realize that the whole "Catch em' all" bit is the whole reason i would say 80% of players play this game. 15% just for nostalgia value, and the small 5% (that's us!) play competitively. Sure, that number should be increasing because they do advertise the VGC tournaments among the instruction manuals/special offers/registration number/etc junk.

I am totally PRO gts. Done a WHOLE lot more good than bad.

^great reply, sir!

I am as well pro GTS- I have stated what I believe to be the positive and the negative- and think that some changes could be made. I did not create this thread to be a poll, nor was it my intentions to make a thread that is a "complaint" department. I expressed some issues that are frustrating while using the GTS.

I would like for the GTS to stick around, and I think that your correct that 5% of us are prolly the only one's to see the negatives as well over the other 95% who would use it for other reasons like the ones stated by you or the few others whom have posted.

I do apologize for not being more clear as to or how this thread was created in that it did bring up a sensitive matter that is part of the focus as to "hacking/hacked" that did make this a complaint matter. I will try to remember for future threads to keep in mind some past advice from you Ulti as to good conversational threads that are more clear and specific so as too not encourage such issues.

I remember this one time on GTS when I was looking for legendaries to complete my Pokedex, and somebody had a Lucario named a legendary name, and when I searched for that legendary it came up as an option.

^ yeah I know what you mean, I have seen that a few times. The other day I was on the GTS and I was looking for a Mewtwo and I moved over one person's offer and I didn't even get to see was it was they wanted before the GTS frozes. I don't know if it had anything to do with the offer or if it was the GTS but that was odd.

but I noticed that if I'm really wanting a poke I try and offer a poke that I bread or just one I don't need, but I usally get what I'm looking for because I don't ask for the impossible :)

It's a minor glitch in the system. That means that they HAD a legendary up, but traded it for the Lucario. The leftovers just kinda hang out on the GTS for a while after the trade is done.

Weirdly, when i've been going on the GTS, I search for a pokemon, and there will be two trainer sprites next to each other, a blank space, and another trainer sprite. I click the blank space and my game freezes...
On topic, I mainly use the GTS to get things I can't obtain myself (shocking, I know), but I don't trust the GTS a whole lot, so I use the mons I get for breeding.

BTW any updates for the 3 Legendary Pokemon that we (in the USA) have not got yet?

Genesect, Meloetta, and Keldeo.

^honestly- I do not think anywhere has released them legitimately-
