Guy's Sunflora/Accelgor 8-1 Swiss report w/ list

Hey everybody, I’m really tired but I wanted to write up a quick report of how my day went with Sunflora Accelgor. I tested about 100 games with this deck in the last month and a half, so I felt really prepared, although I was really scared of seeing Espeons all day….which I didn’t see at all. I finished 8-1 in swiss, only loss was a donk, and I lost in t-64 to Jason Klazynski’s Scizor/Mismagius/Exs/unown Cure/Seeker. His was a really good deck. Anyway, here’s what I played!

W Rd 1 – Quad Donphan
L Rd 2 – Donked by Darkrai
W Rd 3 – CMT
W Rd 4 – Empoleon Donphan (I prized all 3 of my Sunkern and 2 Shelmat and he KOd a Shelmat turn 2….somehow managed a comeback).
W Rd 5 – Klinklang Vileplume
W Rd 6 – Zekrom Eels
W Rd 7 – Darkrai
W Rd 8 – Zekrom Eels
W Rd 9 – Darkrai

W Top 128 – Darkrai Mewtwo Max Potion – My opponent, Taylor, was an incredibly awesome player and a really great person. He didn’t even slow play which was really respectable. I made a huge misplay game 2 but managed to win game 3 after all.

L Top 64 - Scizor/Mismagius/Vileplume/Exs/unown Cure/Seeker – I got wrecked the 1st game because I didn’t know what to do since I’ve never played the matchup (obviously…) and I should have scooped after 15 min when I realized I was crushed, so I could conserve time, but I had never top cut at nats and I didn’t wan to give up a game. Anyways, we play a full 30 min game 1, and then I took 3 prizes to his 1 when time was called in game 2, but I have no way to take that crucial 4th prize by the time the +3 is over to send it to sudden death. I don’t think I could have won a sudden death game anyway since Scizor hits for 70 on turn 2. I should have scooped, just to maximize my odds even just a little bit, but that’s something one learns as one becomes more seasoned in the game.

Overall, I finished 40th, and I’m very happy about that.

I also won a battle roads in Ft. Mill, SC with this deck, going 7-1, losing only to Chandy/Terrakion/Darkrai. The basic strategy of my deck is to set up with Pichu or Collector and Sunflora, get 2 Shelmat, 2 Sunflora, 1 Vileplume, 1 Landorus and Skyarrow Bridge in play and you’re set. Many times I get this without with twins engine because Sunflora is soooo good. You use Twins to grab the important stuff while thinning your deck, then when you run out of twins/sage you juniper away a huge hand and thin your deck to about 20 or less cards so you can get better draws when the opponent plays N late game. You do this all the way down til you don’t have many cards left in the deck, as long as they are 3-4 DCE and 3 or 4 Supporters and some junk that you haven’t discarded yet, and you also use Landorus to absorb hits (and sometimes Tyrogue to stay asleep or Vileplume to absorb hits too lol) to swing the game in your favor. It’s really solid vs CMT, Darkrai, and Zekrom……which is why I played it. Here’s my list!

4-3 Accelgor
3-3 Sunflora
3-1-2 Vileplume
1-1 Vespiquen (Which won me 2 games in the battle road and 1 swiss game and my top 128 match because it prevented my bench from being sniped)
1 Landorus (not only does this absorb hits from everything, but it also knows Guy Hammer and I used it in my farm deck….)
1 Pichu
1 Tyrogue
1 Mewtwo (which didn’t really do muuuuuch)

3 Collector
4 Juniper
4 Sage
4 Twins
4 Juniper
4 Oak
2 Interviewer’s Questions (25 supporters, 3 Comm, 1 Pichu, and 3 Sunflora makes the deck super consistent)
3 Communication
3 Candy
1 SkyArrow
1 Catcher – I only used it once, it was my Espeon tech (let vileplume die, catcher Espeon, candy to a new plume then Deck and Cover) and I think it really helped me vs the Klinklang/Vileplume deck since neither of us built vileplume and I catchered a Darkrai

4 DCE
2 Grass

I was really happy to have done well with Accelgor since it’s my favorite deck and since I was REALLY scared of Espeon techs (which I didn’t see at all). I want to give mad props to Team Missing No, Kevin, Erik, Zach, Philip, and myself all top cut, and Kev plays in top 16 tomorrow. Also, North Carolina and South Carolina had 12 players top cut, and 2 are still in top 16. Goo NC/SC!!

I also got to meet the person who goes by Exobyte on the boards, and he was really cool to talk to. He deserves a lot of credit for his ability to determine rotation and what cards come out when.

Finally, big props to the Indy art museum, the Zoo, and all of my friends!!

EDIT - Congrats to Kev for finishing 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!! also Carolina players Ashon 5th, Erik 21st, me 40th, Zach 58th, Mike 68th, Curran 73rd, Philip 94th, Evan 97th, Ryan 111th, Josh 117th, Robbie 120th, Way to represent!
