hey everyone im clearly new here and need alot of help i hope im posting this in the right spot. if not let me know please!!

basically to start i havent played since the game came out when i was in grade 8, and clearly ALOT has changed. my daughter has starting collecting cards so natuarlly iv gotten back into the game. unforutunatly in my city there seems to be only one league which seems very disorganized so i cant even sign up for a player id tag. in addition when i did stop by for weekly play it seemes to be only young kids with their parents (i handt brought kiddo with me) so i felt like a bit of a creeper and left. is there another way to get a player id? and how do i get into more serious competive play becuase i know im not the only 27 year old who wants to playpokemon!! lol sorry if this was TMI but i need help and pokemon.com on my smartphone is not helpfull hehe any help would be great please

First off, Welcome back to the game! I understand how rules could change from the time you leave a game to the time you come back. As far as getting a player ID, I believe you can apply for one at the http://www.go-pokemon.com pokemon website listed here. I run a league and have a similar problem with wanting to play a fun game but not be too over-powering in my matches with younger players. What I tried doing and it has worked is playing "weaker" decks with not as complex strategy so the younger players have a better chance of winning or at least going the distance as far as prize counts.

Otherwise, are there any other hobby shops you've visited that seemed interested in the idea of wanting to run a league? Maybe encouraging a second league elsewhere might be better for you and others who are facing the same dilemma.

Welcome! There are number of us Pokedads around. My son is 12 yrs old so he's in the senior division. I play too, and run a league.

Near what city do you live? The best thing to do is introduce yourself to your local Premier Tournament Organizer. They definitely won't think you're a creeper! Instead, they'll hook you up with the upcoming tournaments. Right now there are League Challenges, and City Championships run pretty much just before Thanksgiving until just after New Years.

FYI, one big change this year is that Master's division (that means you and me, and kids like 17+) have to pay admission to tournaments. But Junior and Senior division are still free to the City level and above.

Admission fees haven't been too bad so far. I'm not sure what City's will be but the prize support looks pretty nice so far.

The game is NOTHING like it use to be. The HP cap is over 100 points higher. There are cards doing upwards of 200+ damage consistently.
The strategy from the way the game use to be is a lot different. This is more of a "techy" type game where you go for 1 or 2 hits the entire game.
It's all about damage placement and energy acceleration.
A lot more fast paced than it use to be back in those days. The idea of hitting 50 damage for 3 energies and no bad recoiled side effects and being solid attacks, are long long over.
Forewarning I'm sure you have seen the cards.

Classic Base Set Hitmonchan, Electabuzz and Scyther. Ahhhh, those take me back.
