Dear PokeGym,

This is Timothy from Hong Kong, a PTCG player. I am currently working on an essay on the Reasons for the Popularity of Pokemon TCG in the United States. After going to worlds last year, I have heard from players saying that they play Pokemon Cards because of the Community and people here. Therefore, I would like to know more about what the Pokemon Community is like in the US and how is it different from the community of other Trading Card Games or other Games in general? Also, please vote whether or not the people or community is one of the major factors to keep playing Pokemon TCG.

I have created a Google Form (survey). Please do me a favour by filling it in!

Your help will be much appreciated :DDD Thank you so much.

P.S. I am not sure if I can post this thread here. I am sorry if I have violated any rules.

I'd say that the community is more friendly at a bit less cut-throat. Not to mention that there is The Top Cut providing excellent battle commentary videos and other content. They are the people who gave me the next step up.

The next part may be subject to speculation but there is less cheating in the Pokemon TCG. I feel that people are against cheating A LOT more than in other card games.

Thanks you platinumwaiter for your sharing! That would help a lot :D
Have you guys played other TCG? It would mean a lot if you could kindly tell me the difference between the communities in different games.

The YGO crowd cheats and steals. This isn't every YGO crowd. But it's the majority. Just a bit of a comparison, I've spoken to a Tournament Organizer that runs both Pokemon and YGO. He's got an interesting story. When he walks into an event with 300 pens to fill out match slips, he walks out with one. Maybe. If he's lucky. When he walks into a Pokemon event with 300 pens, he walks out with 315, on average.

Magic: the Gathering. Those guys are hardcore, man. Both in a good way, and in a bad way. They're generally highly competitive, they're incredibly knowledgeable about both their own game and about many others. But with that competitiveness and that knowledge comes a certain bit of arrogance and frankly obnoxious behavior. I've heard stories that might or might not be true about Wizards of the Coast having to hire lawyers in order to argue rulings with the players' lawyers. Now, this isn't every MTG community, just like the stealing and cheating doesn't happen in every YGO community. But it's prevalent enough.

That's an interesting point bullados! I wonder if there is any data about the number of players in each card games....any ideas?
