hg/ss versus fake cards

has anyone noticed the energy cost for an attack looking like the ones on fake cards. this is not to good for me. it was how i could tell any fake card. i know there are other ways but for the most part that was the best way. any ideas or coments.

Paper quality and the paper weight was always a big notifier of fake cards. As well as the pattern on the edges of the card.

check the dark blue border on the back of the card. i've never seen a fake that didn't give itself away because of the border...

You don't have to worry about fakes if you buy them from a reputable shop that you have bought many non-fake previous sets from ^-^

I thought it was just me and my older PokeMom eyes that felt the energy symbols looked more 'fake' on the new cards. And many of us that buy all our cards from reputable shops as the above poster suggested still have to check other players' cards at league or tournaments so it is a valid question. Checking the back is the best suggestion. Thanks!

Generally the light test is also a pretty good method of finding fakes.
If you aren't familiar with the light test, then hold your card up to the light facing you, on fake cards the pokeball on the back with show through rather clearly.

That doesn't work well in a lot of dimly lit game stores.

That test was only for the old cards. Newer fakes will pass the light test.

In my entire life, I've only seen one fake card that both looked and felt identical to the authentic, official thing. Every other was a dead giveaway, be it due to the coloring, the energy symbols, the flavor text, and shading, the border, or - as Pokepop said - the back of the card.

Scary, how'd you know? Was it a fake of a not real card?

An addition to my last post: I assume the new Hg/SS cards also have the thin black glue layer down the centre of the card?

Yoyo, this was back during the Base Set days when faking was so much more sophisticated.

The card was a Base Set Arcanine: the back of all places looked identical to a real card, and the front looked virtually identical too, except for one giveaway:

The light red background shading was a just a little bit off from every other print run that real Arcanines had been through. Unlike Shadowed and Shadowless Arcanine, it looked too orange when placed next to the real deal.

By itself though, it was shockingly deceiving.

i got some HG/SS cards and i i found out they were fake...i got a bill card and the picture was a lot blurrier than my other bill...and unown flash i got 2 fake ones...one was very blurry and the other ones picture was very dark yellowish.
