For pokemon to just bring in Lv X pokemon, I don't think we have seen the last of them. Though the game has been getting more and more yugioh-ish. (Lost Zone = Remove cards from play/ all trainers = magic and trap, combo pokemon = Ritual summon cards...) but as it shows each game is still it's own game. So as long as Pokemon doesn't start putting up translation errors to make invisible rules up, I am good on it.

I really don't think the lv X are disappearing though. right now, only "legendary pokemon" are legend and it might just stay that way if you think about it.

Maybe they will be the only Legends in the set. Two halves of Lugia, two halves of Ho-Oh = four chase cards in the set?

Or maybe we'll get Entei, Raikou and Suicune as Legends, too. Then back to the other generations in future sets with Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza as Legends, etc etc. Eventually we'll be back to Arceus and the inevitable Arceus Legend of each of the 9 types = 18 chase cards. =)

Or you have one card that is all 9 types, like Kecleon Lv. 34. Or a Rainbow Type. That'd be sweet.

Because we still see pokemon-*, pokemon ex, crystal types, and Shining pokemon all the time right? But yeah, we definitely haven't seen the last of pokemon lv. x. Never mind that the new pokemon don't have levels to level up from...

Also, Magic the Gathering had a two-card card and RFG area before Yugioh ever did. What about spell and trap comparison though? o_O

Yeah, I don't get it either, there's really no similarity in the games at all.

Prime, Stage 1s have been hurting since Base Set and Pokémon Breeder, especially since most of them exist simply to evolve further. The metagame has always, as far as I can tell, revolved around either cheap, strong basics or horribly powerful Stage 2s. The middle of the road Stage 1s just can't compete.

Gyarados is a Stage 1 that's competitive...
But I guess for the most part, Stage 1's that have a hope of being competitive are the ones that have high-enough HP that is comparable to a Stage 2 (like the aforementioned Gyarados) and have cheap attacks. Rare Candy and BTS made it all the much better for Stage 2's and because of those there is no reason to run a Stage 1 over a Stage 2 (which usually has more powerful attacks, anyway and is able to take hits while you power it up)... Most Stage 1's also have 90-100 HP, which are OHKO-able in today's format.

Does nobody remember RaiEggs, two stage 1 lines, that won Nationals in Masters?

In the past, with 2x weakness, you could tech in a stage 1 and DRE it for the OHKO on common enemies.

In this format, you can't do that because you don't have DRE, and stage 1s can't OHKO (without extra help from Lucario GL or Lake Boundary).

Absolutions was Stage 1 as well and won both US Nationals and Worlds in 2007.
Magmortar has been the #2 meta deck for a long time.
Blissey... didn't it get 2nd at Worlds last season in two age groups?
Not to talk about decks of the past like Medicham ex.

Just because in 2008/2009 there were almost no competitive stage 1 Pokémon it doesn't mean that they're worse in general.

Some of the D/P on changes I've liked and others I haven't so much ... but the changes to weakness were one of the BEST things to happen ever. Like Prime said they actually seemed to fight the recent donk trend. It wasn't enough to just whack on some basic with a 30 point attack hitting weakness ... you had to have something doing 40, 50, or more. First turn donks due to Machamp, Kingdra, etc. were the reverse of that ... but you typically needed more than 2 cards to pull off that kind of thing T1 or T2 going first.

Just doing a quick Pokepedia scan ... there are 336 basic cards in format that can do 30 or more damage. Tell me that once x2 weakness comes back on normal HP basics and not the higher HP SP pokemon that we will not have a donkfest going on.

Okay, okay, so I was wrong about Stage 1. My apologies. There's quite a bit of a gap in my competitive knowledge, so maybe I just should stick to what I know for certain rather than hypothesis.

vanderbilt: We will not have a donkfest. Riolu was so powerful because of the popularity of Delcatty in decks. About the only things that'd be similar in today's game are Baltoy and Unown, which are generally bad starts to begin with. Other than that, you'd need to have just about every type out there in order to try to cover the top decks, and even then you'll have difficulty having the right one in play to donk. It's type diversity that I think will prevent it. Though you'll probably want to run a second-color line to make sure you don't autolose to a deck that type-trumps you, like Infernape 4 runs Luxray GL.

There are 8 Legend Cards in this set. If that means 8 pokemon or 8 actual cards, idk yet.

No theer are 2 legends (4 cards total) and 8 Great Pokemon (supposedly the new Lv X=great pokemon)

The more I read this thread the more I see way to much confussion in what ppeople are refering to. Please if your going to post reaqd carefull what the set is and includes.

Yeah, but how many of them can do 30 or more damage for 1 energy? I don't think there will be a donkfest. Things might change, but there will always be cards like Bubble Coat.:thumb:

Well spelling and grammar do not help you case...

As for the great Pokemon, there are going to be 8, hopefully things like steelix, ttar, kingdra, blissey, umbreon, espeon, entei, suicune, raikou, etc. These would all be great candidates.
