Highest price paid for a decklist!

That was probably a misleading thread title, but I'll explain: Wow, I was shocked! I figure the guy is either extremely selfless or has "sucker" tattood to his forehead. I wasn't around for the outcome of the finals match between Matthew Koo (Throne of Legends - I think that's his screen name) and Kevin Lee (NuGundam) at the Ontario Regionals, but I was told by Kevin that whichever he won - either the $1000 scholarship or the $1500 scholarship would go to the person who gave him his decklist - Kant Shen. He says Kant needs it - being a student, so he was going to give it to him. This wasn't a sell me your list thing, just a very nice gift. I may have kidded around with you last night, Kevin, but my hat's off to you. Congratulations on either your first or second place finish in Masters at the Ontario Regionals (whichever it was), and thanks for your generous donation to others. You're a good man, and great league leader. :thumb:

Do I heard a really nice story of SOTG yet again - to a great player who did a great start of the tournament season and cant rly play much at cities due to studies? Way to go, Kevin.

Argh, then after that, Kevin comes up with a stupid comment like this:

"No one cares about the Seniors because Lia's kids decided to go "We're in your tournament, winning your prizes" again "

I take back what I said about being a good man. :nonono: Who said that they'd automatically win the prizes? They're good, no doubt about that, but they don't show up and automatically win - any more than you. Kevin, you're definitely a complicated man, that's for sure. Generous, sure. But you do have your rude streak.

Lia, I'm looking forward to seeing you all next year, and seeing if we can get our metagame a bit stronger. Hey, you never know, I may just might have you and your boys a game. They are so polite.

Garret: See the other thread as I decided to man up regarding that (yes, I admit that I was wrong in that issue and willing to apologize for that, and that proves that I obviously didn't think hard enough at times just like when I play in te tournaments) Also, expect a PM from me soon since I have an issue to bring up.

Back to topic at hand, I obviously know that you are joking with me for being a "sucker" (though I'll admit that I am one at times). Considering the fact that I am working right now, the scholarship is pretty much pointless for me as I do not believe I will have time to "go back to school" as Mike "The Head Judge" says (and no, if I want to learn how to cook, I'd rather ask my mom since she is a good cook). So I obviously will give it to a person that will be able to actually use the scholarship money and not letting it go to waste, and in this case it will be Kant since he helped me a lot when I returned to the game last year.

Well, I am actually a cynical/bitter person. The reasons why I run a League is because I hope I can cure that mentality of mine and doing something for the kids (Garret: remember that there was no League in metro Toronto for the last few years, so when I started it I hoped that the League can be a place where kids can come in to play and have a good time ... which I am beginning to succeed) As far as my generious side goes, some people actually thinks that it is my undoing as they believe it is somehow causing me unnecessary stress ...

PS. The true cost for the decklists in Provincals and Regionals is actually only paying for his dinner in these nights ,.. and the gas money

You get scollarships in America for regional? all we get here in UK is some booster packs... pretty much the same for Nationals... -__- but then again, we still havn't got our 4th gym badges and score cards in yet... I think POP USA just forgets we're over here >_<

Yes, you get scholarships for placing in the Top 2 in North American Regionals ($1,500 for 1st Place and $1,000 for 2nd Place). Though I occasionally wonder why we still only get the same amount for the Canadian Nationals (plus $750 for 3rd and 4th Place), then again, since post-secondary education is quite expensive so every bit helps. As far as your comment about me being really generous, I don't think what I did is that amazing ... there are many people out there doing much greater things unoticed as far as I am concerned.

You get Blastoise binders for winning? Wow, I want that! Mind you, I think I'd rather have the scholarship, but the binders sound good too.

As for the prize package of Nationals, you can thank the PTO's for lobbying POP for what prizes are there. The original packages were somewhat different, but in what manner, I have no idea for sure. However I do know that originally there was only going to be 1 paid trip to World's from Canada per age group. Now there's 2. So yes, some things do happen behind the scenes. Of course that doesn't negate the importance of the generous gift. But it's nice to know that these sort of things happen every now and then.
