Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

History of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Organized Play - Part 1

September 1998
The Pokémon anime premieres on September 7th on Kids WB and quickly becomes the top rated kids' cartoon show.

Actually, the Pokemon TV show was sydicatated until early 1999 when it premiered on Kids' WB.

I remember it being on UPN for the first season (up through Charmander evolving), then switching to KWB for a year of reruns, then season 2...

I actually remember seeing the first episode of Pokemon on TV when it was shown, I stayed out of school acting sick and was lucky enough to turn on the channel and see it.

Didn't they show the first episode as the Battle Aboard The St. Anne by accident? Then the next day was the real first episode.

Hot update to 1998 News. The Demo Deck is from 1998, not 1999. It predates the general release per a news item from Brian Brokaw on the original PokeGym during the first days of 1999!

i still have a sealed Demo Deck, how much do you think it's worth?

Venusaur:

I don't think that was a mistake, the showing of the St. Anne episode, unless that is some weird bit of info I've never heard.
I think I still have that first recording on a tape somewhere and I seem to remember the "narrator" indicating as the episode began that, yes this is not the first episode. "Pokemon, I Choose You" then aired the next day.

I could be wrong but thats what I remember.

I am very excited to learn on how deep Pokemon really is. I look forward to more information that will no doubt surpass my knowledge of the game.

I'll update the anime info.

The Demo Deck is in the price guide, under Collectibles, Decks.
I believe we are the ONLY Price Guide to list it.

Yeah... back in 4th/5th grade when everyone brought their cards to school and then the cards got banned cause someone was stealing other people's cards. And when I wanted to join league but my mom said no because she didn't wanna drive me. XD

same exact situation here XD

I remember like a month after I first got my cards, I'd left them on the table for a few days (I'd usually played with my cousin but he hadn't been around) and she thought I was through with the game for good XD

No mention of the promotional videos that were sent to people in the mail? >_>;
(just how rare are those things? I still have mine, but the box got destroyed..)

I remember when i was in 2nd grade, i went to my old target store and got a pack of Gym Heroes and a Fossil Starter deck (don't remember which one) then i brought my cards to school. My friends and I had a tourny then i won the whole thing. Aftrer Recess where the tourny took place, one of my classmates told on me that i brought my cards to school. So i had to give up all my cards but i only gave 1.

Two questions on the video: When did you get it, and do you know what triggered you getting it? How did they get your info to send it to you?

I remember when Pokemon first started appearing on TV.

I was 10 years old and I remember a commercial for Pokemon Red and Blue for Gameboy.
The commercial had a vaccuum cleaner sucking up a bunch of monsters like Beedrill and Pikachu.
(It never made any sense to me)

Then my friend got a lunchables box with cardboard-cutouts of pokemon with their info on 'em. (Height, Weight ECT)

We quized each other about pokemon to see who knew the most.

Then came the KFC Beanies. (I never got any tho :frown:)

Not long afterwards my friend bought theme decks and we learned how to play.

We got bored of the theme decks and wanted to build our own.
I didn't have any cards myself, so we built decks with his cards.
We had a 3 person tournament, and I won with a stupid Wartortle/Jynx/other random pokemon deck
(I would've been better off sticking with the theme deck lol)

Then I got a collection of 7 cards for myself. I traded with friends.
(Ahh.. the good old days... you could walk up to people you didn't even know and start trading pokemon cards...)

Then my friend gave me some of his Fossil/Jungle/Base set cards.
That's when I really started to play.
