Hit & run vs Fainting Spell

[Note:] This question already takes into affect the required errata for Gengar; "attacking" instead of "defending" Pokemon.

A player uses Gliscor's Night Slash to knock out an SF Gengar and switch to the bench. Does Fainting Spell still go through even though I benched?
